We previously reported that the former All In The Family star Rob Reiner was found dead along with his wife Michelle on Sunday. They were allegedly stabbed to death by their own son Nick. He has since been arrested and charged with their double murders.
Now, the LAPD is speaking out to reveal sad new details about these murders.
Tragic Details About Reiner Murders
LAPD Assistant Police Chief Dominic Choi has confirmed that both Rob, 78, and Michele, 70, were found deceased in the primary bedroom of their mansion in Brentwood, California.
They both died due to multiple sharp force injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiners office. The autopsies went on to say that there were other significant conditions that contributed to their deaths.
On Wednesday, their son Nick, 32, appeared in court for the first time. This came after he was charged with double homicide. When he arrived in court, Nick was wearing a blue suicide prevention vest.
During the brief hearing, the judge asked Nick if he was waiving his rights to a speedy arraignment.
“Yes, your honor,” Nick replied.
The judge then set his arraignment date for January 7. Nick was denied bail and will be behind bars at least until this date.
Charges Against Nick – His Lawyer Speaks Out
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman had confirmed one day before that Nick would be charged with double homicide.
“These charges will be two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders,” Hochman said in a press conference. “He also faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, that being a knife. These charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.”
Nick is being represented by the high profile attorney Alan Jackson. After yesterday’s hearing, Jackson admitted that there is a myriad of issues against his client in this case.
“First of all, and most importantly, this is a devastating tragedy that has befallen the Reiner family,” Jackson said.
“We all recognize that, our hearts go out to the entire Reiner family,” he continued. “There are very, very complex and serious issues that are associated with this case that needs to be thoroughly but very carefully dealt with, and examined and looked at and analyzed.”
Reiners’ Final Hours
The Reiners were last seen on Saturday night, when they attended a Christmas party with Nick that was hosted by Conan O’Brien. There, Nick was seen acting strangely, and other guests saw him get into a heated argument with Rob.
“Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they were famous,” a source told People Magazine.
Rob, Michele, and Nick eventually left the party together. It is believed that Nick killed them in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Later that day, a masseuse arrived at the Reiner home for a prescheduled appointment. When nobody answered the door, the masseuse called the Reiners’ 27 year-old daughter Romy, who lives across the street.
Romy was able to enter the home, only to find the body of her father. She immediately fled and told her roommate, who was waiting outside, to call the police. Romy was so distraught by the bloody scene that she didn’t notice the body of her mother. She had to be told by paramedics upon their arrival that her mother was dead as well.
Nick was apprehended around six hours later near the University of Southern California campus. By then, he had checked into a local hotel, with his room there being covered in blood.
Romy And Jake Reiner Break Their Silence
Romy and her older brother Jake, 34, released a brief statement on Wednesday opening up about their “unimaginable pain.”
“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they told Fox News. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”
“We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life,” they concluded. “We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”
This is clearly an extremely tragic situation for everyone involved. Please join us in saying a prayer for the Reiner family as they continue to grieve Rob and Michele.
