The legendary Queen guitarist Brian May has made a sad announcement about his health that has his fans praying for him.

May Suffers Stroke

May, 77, took to social media on Wednesday to reveal that he suffered a “minor stroke” about one week ago. He revealed this while talking about his new documentary Brian May: The Badgers, The Farmers and Me.

Initially, it looked like May’s days of shredding the guitar were over. Thankfully, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

“Good news is that I can play guitar after the events of the last few days and I say this because it was in some doubt because that little health hiccup that I mentioned happened about a week ago… it was a minor stroke and all of a sudden, out of the blue, I didn’t have any control over this arm,” May said. “So was a little scary.”

Brian May unable to play guitar? That’s a world we don’t want to live in!

“I have to say I had the most fantastic care and attention from Frimley Hospital where I went, blue lights flashing… the lot. Very exciting!” he continued.

May Doesn’t ‘Want Sympathy’

May went on to say that he “didn’t want to say anything at the time” because he doesn’t “want sympathy.”

“Please don’t do that ’cause it’ll clutter up my inbox and I hate that,” he said, insisting that the “good news” is that he’s “OK.”

As for how his recovery is going, May said that he is “just doing what I’m told, which is basically nothing.”

“I’m grounded I’m not allowed to go out – well I’m not allowed to drive, not allowed to get on a plane, not allowed to raise the heart rate too high, not allowed to have planes flying over, which will stress me,” he explained as a plane flew above him. “But I’m good.”

May’s Previous Health Struggles

This sadly isn’t May’s first serious health struggle. Back in 2020, he suffered a “very near death” heart attack. Doctors found that May had three blocked arteries. They then fitted him for three stints that help to keep the arteries open.

Making matters even worse, May then nearly died from “shocking” complications stemming from the heart attack medication that he was put on.

“It’s a long climb back,” May said at the time. “I’ve had complications due to the drugs I’m on, one of which was a stomach explosion that nearly killed me.”

“The worst thing that happened was a stomach hemorrhage and I lost an awful lot of blood,” he added in a separate interview. “I was wiped out, couldn’t get across the floor.”

May also admitted that he was confused as to how this happened to him.

“I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, I don’t have high cholesterol and I was exercising through the tour, so why did it happen?” he continued. “At least I now have a heart that is working far better than it was.”

May has not been on the road since February 14, when Queen wrapped a five-date tour across Japan. Please join us in saying a prayer for him as he continues his recovery from this stroke!
