Prince William is in mourning today after one of his close friends died suddenly on Thursday.
William’s Friend Passes Away
The billionaire businessman Sunjay Kapur, who was one of William’s polo pals, died yesterday after collapsing at a polo match. He was 53 years-old.
Kapur reportedly died after swallowing a bee in the middle of a polo match. This triggered a heart attack as Kapur went into anaphylactic shock.
“He was full of life, laughing, joking, then gone in an instant,” one insider told The Mirror.
Witnesses told The Telegraph that Kapur said “I’ve swallowed something” just before he collapsed.
“He will be greatly missed not only by his family and friends but the local community around his club as he employed so many people and made so many friends — he was fun, kind and generous,” said a friend of Kapur’s. “He didn’t distinguish between his grooms or high net worth friends — when he had a party, everyone was invited and everyone was equal.”
People Magazine reported that “anaphylaxis causes the immune system to release chemicals that can cause a person to go into shock.”
“Blood pressure drops suddenly, and the airways narrow, blocking breathing,” the Mayo Clinic states. “Signs and symptoms include a rapid, weak pulse; a skin rash; and nausea and vomiting. Common triggers include certain foods, some medications, insect venom and latex.”
Kapur’s History
Kapur was the chairman of global car parts giant Sona Comstar. He inherited the company from his father, Dr. Surinder Kapur, who founded the automotive component company in 1987.
“We are deeply saddened by the sudden demise of our Chairman, Mr. Sunjay Kapur,” Sona Comstar said in a statement. “He was a visionary leader whose passion, insight and dedication shaped the identity and success of our company.”
After his death, Kapur was praised by his industry colleagues as someone who was committed to innovation and manufacturing excellence. One former associate of Kapur’s was “a titan of Indian industry, taken far too soon.”
Kapur was an avid polo player who enjoyed playing the game with various members of the British royal family over the years. He was particularly close to William.
Kapur was married to the Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor from 2003 until they divorced in 2016. They share two children: daughter Samaira, 20, and son Kiaan, 14. In 2017, Kapur married the model Priya Sachdev. They are parents to a son Azarias, 7.
Hours before his death, Kapur took to social media to honor victims of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. Indeed, over 240 people were killed, and only one person on the flight survived.
“Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad,” Kapur wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour.”
