Last week, we reported that Prince Harry had met with his father King Charles in person for the first time in 19 months. Indeed, the pair enjoyed a “private tea” in London for around 55 minutes on Wednesday.
This led many to think that a reconciliation could be in the works between Harry and the royal family following years of estrangement. While this could still be the case, Harry just lessened the chances of reconciliation in a big way by taking what appears to be a thinly veiled dig at his older brother Prince William.
Harry Sounds Off
Harry, who is celebrating his 41st birthday today, and his wife Meghan Markle, 44, stepped down as senior royals in January of 2020. In the years since then, they’ve been bashing the royal family seemingly every chance they’ve gotten in books, interviews, and docuseries.
Despite this, Harry is now shockingly claiming that he didn’t air his family’s “dirty laundry in public.” Instead, Harry simply believes he told the “truth.”
Harry spent four days in the United Kingdom last week. One day after his private tea with his father, he headed to Ukraine for a brief visit. There, Harry claimed that his tell-all memoir “Spare” and his Netflix docuseries were “not about revenge.”
“I know that [speaking out] annoys some people and it goes against the narrative,” Harry told The Guardian. “The book? It was a series of corrections to stories already out there. One point of view had been put out and it needed to be corrected.”
“I don’t believe that I aired my dirty laundry in public. It was a difficult message, but I did it in the best way possible. My conscience is clear,” he continued. “It is not about revenge, it is about accountability.”
Harry Takes Thinly Veiled Dig At William
Not stopping there, Harry proceeded to take what many have perceived as a subtle dig at William, 43. He did so by saying that while he wants to reconnect with his family, he also feels that “you cannot have reconciliation before you have truth.
While Harry may claim that he didn’t air his family’s “dirty laundry” in public with his book and docuseries, many would argue that this is exactly what he did.
In his book “Spare,” Harry alleged that William physically attacked him in an altercation that took place after his 2018 marriage to Meghan. According to Harry, this altercation left him with visible “scrapes and bruises.”
“[William] grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor,” Harry wrote.
Harry also accused William of mocking his panic attacks. On top of that, he claimed that the King put his own interests ahead of those of his second son.
If that’s not airing your family’s “dirty laundry” in public, we don’t know what is!
Harry’s Alleged ‘Regrets’
After his private visit with the King, a royal source claimed that Harry is one step closer to being part of the “functioning wider family again.”
“It’s become clear that Harry now regrets some of his actions,” this royal insider told Daily Mail. “He wants to reset his relationship with his family and with the people of the U.K.“
“It’s hard to see him ever coming back to live in Britain but this may be the start of something that at least allows them to be a functioning wider family again,” the source added.
With Harry and William still seemingly at odds, however, it appears that a royal reconciliation could be as far away from happening as ever.
It’s never fun to see families be torn apart. However, we can certainly understand why William and his fellow royals would be wary of trusting Harry.
Only time will tell if Harry ever ends up back in the royal fold!
