Jillian Lauren, the wife of the Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot by police on Wednesday. The story gets even stranger.
She was then booked for attempted murder!
Lauren Shot By Police
The LAPD confirmed to Daily Mail that Lauren was shot after she pointed a gun at police officers.
This incident occurred in the northeast Los Angeles neighborhood of Eagle Rock. It all started when a male suspect entered Lauren’s neighbor’s property after he was involved in a three-car crash on the 134 Freeway.
“While hiding from officers who set up a perimeter in the area, the man stripped down to his boxer shorts before jumping in a resident’s swimming pool and watering some plants in a bizarre attempt to blend into the neighborhood,” The Mail reported.
It was then that Lauren came out of the home that she shares with Shriner, holding a gun. Officers told her to drop the weapon multiple times, but she refused to do so. Instead, Lauren pointed it at police, who were left with no choice but to open fire.
Lauren ended up being shot in the shoulder. Once she was hit, she ran back into her home, only to reemerge with a babysitter minutes later. Video shows both women walking out of the home with their hands raised as officers told them to walk down the driveway.
Lauren Booked For Attempted Murder
Lauren proceeded to tell officers that she was simply trying to defend her own home from the male suspect. She was then taken to a nearby medical facility. As she was transported there, Lauren was absentee booked on suspicion of attempted murder. She has been left with what paramedics described as a “non-life-threatening gunshot wound.”
Lauren was eventually released on a $1 million bond. Police do not believe that she was involved in the initial hit-and-run that sparked this bizarre series of events. They were able to apprehend the male suspect involved in that incident.
It’s unclear if Shriner was home at the time of the incident. At the time of this writing, he is still scheduled to perform with Weezer at the Coachella music festival on Saturday.
Lauren’s Cancer Battle
This comes one month after Lauren revealed that she was recovering from cancer treatments.
“I’d like to thank the Academy, my amazing hair and makeup team, and the lighting designers here at #glendaleadventisthospital,” Lauren, 51, wrote on Instagram on March 4. She posted this caption alongside a selfie of herself in a hospital bed. “As if they all hadn’t been through enough with the fires right next door! Yes, I have a little bit of the C word y’all. I know a lot of us do.”
“I’m here to thank the incredible oncology team here, who pulled me through a complicated operation without a hitch,” she continued. “I am always so grateful for every second of the compassionate and excellent medical care I receive in my life.”
Lauren And Shriner’s History
Shriner, 59, and Lauren have been married since 2005. They are parents to sons Tariku and Jovanni, whom they adopted in 2009 and 2016, respectively.
Lauren, who describes herself as a “rocker wife,” is a bestselling author in her own right. She’s arguably best known for her 2020 book Behold the Monster: Confronting America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer.
Shriner and Lauren have yet to break their silence about this incident. It will certainly be interesting to see how this story develops.
