We previously reported that the Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman and her country music star husband Keith Urban had separated after 19 years of marriage. At the time, insiders were claiming that Nicole was desperately “fighting to save her marriage.” They also alleged that she’d felt “blindsided” by Keith wanting to separate.
Hours later, however, Nicole, 58, officially filed for divorce from Keith, 58. This came amidst rumors that Keith had already moved on with a “new girlfriend.”
Now, insiders are claiming that Nicole’s close friend and Oscar-nominated actress Naomi Watts is urging her to date their A-list Australian actor Simon Baker.
Nicole And Simon: A Potential Romance?
“Simon’s always been a good friend of Nicole’s – she and Naomi are both godmothers to his kids – but it’s always been a strictly platonic friendship,” an insider explained.
However, the source went on to say that Nicole is “too scared” to do something that could potentially ruin her decades-long friendship with Simon. She also wants to protect her long-lasting friendship with her fellow Aussie actress Rebecca Rigg, who was married to Simon from 1998 until 2020.
The insider went on to say that Noami “knows that Simon would drop everything and everyone to hook up with Nicole.”
“Naomi would love to see Nicole and Simon hook up. But she knows Nicole’s not ready yet and she’s still getting over her split from Keith,” the insider continued.
Nicole and Simon are preparing to star together in the Amazon Prime series Scarpetta. That new show is set to drop in March. It was reportedly Naomi who suggested that Simon should play Nicole’s lover on the series, which is based on the books by Patricia Cornwell.
Nicole and Simon previously portrayed a couple in the Apple+ streaming series Roar back in 2022. At the time, Simon made a cheeky joke about their “marriage.”
“I had the privilege of playing husband to Nicole Kidman, hmmn….,” Simon wrote on Instagram at the time alongside a steamy photo of Nicole. In the image, Nicole could be seen laying facedown on the floor of a bedroom surrounded by picture frames.
“Didn’t know she’d be eating photographs,” Simon went on to joke.
Nicole And Keith’s Split
This comes as Nicole is still coming to terms with her split from Keith. Unbeknownst to fans, Nicole and Keith secretly separated back in June. Keith was the one who initiated the split. He then immediately moved out of the family home and into his own residence in Nashville.
Nicole then spent the summer desperately trying to save their marriage. The actress finally gave in and filed for divorce on September 30.
“She didn’t want this,” a source told People Magazine after Nicole filed. “She has been fighting to save the marriage.”
Another insider told US Weekly that Nicole “had faith they could work it out.” Indeed, she still had hope despite being “quietly separated for a while.
“This wasn’t Nicole’s decision, and she is devastated,” the source lamented. “Her trust was lost, and it was too far gone. Nicole had been trying to get them to work on their marriage and did not want this to get out to the public. She didn’t tell many friends what was really going on with them and was holding this in for months.”
As she starts a new year, Nicole is trying to have a positive attitude. On New Year’s Eve, Nicole took to her Instagram Stories to post a photo of herself with her and Keith’s daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 15.
“Looking forward into 2026 xx,” Nicole wrote across the image.
It’s completely understandable that Nicole was ready to put 2025 behind her. Only time will tell if she decides to give a love with Simon a shot!
