Last month, we reported that the Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman and her country music star husband Keith Urban had separated after 19 years of marriage. At the time, insiders were claiming that Kidman was desperately “fighting to save her marriage.” They also alleged that she’d felt “blindsided” by Urban wanting to separate.
Hours later, however, Kidman, 58, officially filed for divorce from Urban, 58. This came amidst rumors that Urban had already moved on with a “new girlfriend.”
Kidman filed for divorce from Urban on September 30, citing “irreconcilable differences” at the time. Now, Kidman is speaking out to reveal how her and Urban’s two teenage daughters are doing amidst their split.
Kidman Discusses Her Daughters
Kidman and Urban are parents to Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. While interviewing Ariana Grande for Interview Magazine, Kidman revealed a lesson she’s trying to teach her daughters when it comes to social media.
“I’m so grateful to be able to do what I love. I just wasn’t expecting certain pieces of it,” said Grande, who plays Glinda in Wicked: For Good. The 32 year-old went on to say that there was a “big adjustment” that came after her life changed in a “very drastic way” as she became a pop sensation.
Kidman could not help but agree with her.
“Well, you’re very young, and then suddenly you’re put into this fishbowl and everything is dissected,” Kidman said. “It starts to get very, very difficult. And then you overthink it and then you get scared and then you get hurt. And then you go, ‘Now I don’t want to go out. I don’t want to venture into this world.’ I get it.”
Kidman went on to say that while there is “a constant push-pull” that “exists for everyone,” she also believes that things are a little different for younger generations.
“I’m raising teenage girls right now, and it’s fascinating. I think they have an armor that we didn’t get,” she explained. “Or that I certainly didn’t get, because there was no social media. The very, very young now have already gone, ‘We know exactly how to handle this.'”
“They don’t take a lot of things personally,” Kidman added. “They shrug it off.”
Grande confessed that she’d love to have “a little dose of that” confidence. Kidman concurred, saying, “We need that lesson.”
Kidman And Urban’s Split
Urban and Kidman reportedly secretly separated back in June, with him initiating the split. The former Moulin Rouge star then spent months desperately trying to save their marriage before finally filing for divorce at the end of September.
“She’s been stressed because she knew the separation would eventually become public and she was dreading it,” a source told People Magazine early last month. “But she’s surprisingly level-headed and calm. Now that it’s out she’s just focused on what’s ahead and her girls.”
Another insider close to Kidman has since claimed that for the sake of their daughters, Kidman is “willing” to spend Christmas with Urban.
“Nicole has some very big feelings about all of this. But she’s insisting she can put them to the side and compartmentalize to create some happy moments for the girls,” the source alleged. “They’ve been pretty well-glued to her side since this all started. And they aren’t going to want to be apart from her for the holidays. So her plan is to spend time as a family with Keith.”
Kidman ‘Doesn’t Want To Alienate’ Urban
The insider went on to say that even though Urban has “been very busy with his concerts and studio work,” Kidman still “doesn’t want to alienate him from their kids.”
“So she’s going to be the bigger person and help facilitate this,” the source concluded. “It’s always fallen on her shoulders in the past to coordinate everything for the holidays, and this is no different. As much as she’d love to just take the girls home to Australia, she’s saying she’s willing to spend the majority of the holidays in Nashville to accommodate Keith.”
