Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are separated after 19 years of marriage.
Announced first by People and TMZ, the news broke on September 29th that Urban and Kidman are split. Learn more about their lives below.
First Meeting
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban first met 20 years ago in 2005 at the G’Day USA Gala in Los Angeles. After the pair met, it didn’t take long for them to fall in love.
Kidman even knew Urban was the one early on in the relationship, and they married just over a year later, near Sydney, Australia, on June 25th, 2006.
In an interview with People magazine in 2019, Kidman commented, “It was my (38th) birthday, and he stood outside with gardenias at 5 a.m. on my stoop in New York. That is when I went, ‘This is the man I hope I get to marry.’ I believed by that point he was the love of my life.”
Kids Together
Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman share two daughters, 17-year-old Sunday Rose Kidman-Urban, and 14-year-old Faith Margaret Kidman-Urban.
Kidman is also the mother to two other children, Isabella “Bella” Cruise and Connor Cruise, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Tom Cruise. The pair adopted Bella and Connor.
Supporting Each Other’s Achievements
The pair have consistently supported each other’s achievements and the lows of life. In 2024, Urban honored Kidman when she was presented with the 49th American Film Institute Life Achievement Award.
In his speech, Urban shared how much of an impact Kidman had, calling her “raw” and “resilient.”
“She has the capacity to love like no one I’ve ever met,” Urban announced before telling Kidman that “next year will be 20 years that I’ve been madly in love with you.”
He later went on to talk about his rehab after they got married to resolve his past addictions. “If you want to see what love in action really looks like, give that a whirl. Nic pushed through every negative voice — I’m sure even some of her own — and she chose love. And here we are tonight, 18 years later.”
He finished his emotional speech by adding, “The thing about Nic — she loves life. I’ve actually never met anyone who has such a passion for being alive. She knows the importance of expressing feelings as well. I wasn’t raised like this at all, so our girls are very lucky to be learning from you, baby. I’m learning too.”
19th Wedding Anniversary Post
Earlier this year, in June, Nicole Kidman shared a backstage photo of herself hugging Urban on social media to commemorate 19 years since their wedding.
The post was captioned with “Happy Anniversary Baby ❤️ @KeithUrban.”
As of now, it’s not certain who broke off the marriage or what happened to stem the separation.
Though, according to TMZ, the split was prompted by Urban, who supposedly has been living apart from Kidman and the girls since the beginning of the summer. Kidman did not want the split.
