If you’ve been asking yourself what ever happened to Jessica Simpson, wonder no more.
The blonde sensation, who was all the rage in the 2000s, is back after a 15-year hiatus and a split from her husband, Eric Johnson, a former NFL star.
Simpson Performs For First Time Since 2010
Last Wednesday night, Simpson performed at the Recording Academy’s Block Party at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. There, she sang some of her hits, including “I Wanna Love You Forever,” “I Think I Love You” and “With You.”
“Last night was my first performance in 15 years,” Simpson, 44, wrote on Instagram alongside clips of her performance. “It was an emotional coming back home to the best part of myself.”
“Thank you for embracing me,” she continued. “You know that I have so much to say, but this lucky voice gets to soar again tonight. I love y’all. More to come…”
This was the first time that Simpson had performed publicly since the 2010 Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting ceremony. A lifetime in terms of celebrity.
“This time I needed to remember who I was and why I wanted to sing in the first place and all the music that inspires me,” Simpson told the crowd. “And I need to forget who they told me to be.”
Simpson also performed covers of Nancy Sinatra’s 1966 hit “These Boots Are Made for Walkin'” and Dusty Springfield’s 1969 classic “Son of a Preacher Man.”

Simpson’s New Music
Simspon recently released two new songs, “Use My Heart Against Me” and “Leave.” She went on to talk to the crowd about her songwriting process in Nashville when it came to writing these two tunes.
“The songs kept coming, I was so inspired, it was such a beautiful moment,” she gushed. “But within that moment, my life turned upside down and there was no way I was going to let it keep me from my purpose.
“There was no way I was going to let the light go dim,” Simpson continued. “I’ve done that before and it really only held me back and made me so insecure. And I can say today that I love myself, I love the woman that I am, I love the mother that I am, I love the friend I am and I know that heartbreak,” she went on. “You write some good music when you go through heartbreak… so, I guess take advantage of it?”

Simpson Is ‘A Very Single Lady’
This comes at a difficult time for Simpson. Back in January, she announced that she is divorcing the former NFL player Eric Johnson, who she married in July of 2014. She addressed this very briefly during last week’s performance.
“I was out in Nashville and I had my heart wide open, I was in a very intuitive state and I had to ask some very personal questions on the home front,” Simpson told the crowd. “And I found out that my world had been turned upside down and that life was now very different.”
“I am a very single lady,” she added.

Prior to her marriage, Simpson was an incredibly talented performer who had millions of fans. It seems clear that she is prioritizing getting back to her singing career, now that she’s single again. We wish Simpson the best of luck with that, and we can’t wait to see her perform more in the months to come!
