Last week, we reported on the bombshell revelation that Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband Brandon Blackstock was dating her former assistant Brittney Marie Jones at the time of his death earlier this month. Now, new details about Jones are coming to light.

Jones’ History With Blackstock

Blackstock died on August 7 after a private three year battle with cancer. Fans had no idea that he was dating Clarkson’s former assistant until Jones was mentioned in his obituary. It seems that he was dating Jones throughout the final years of his life.

“Brandon and Brittney were in a relationship, and his family was very happy and supportive,” an insider told Us Weekly after his death. “Brandon was very private, especially after leaving the entertainment industry, but his family embraced his relationship with Brittney.”

Blackstock and Clarkson, 43, are parents to a daughter River Rose, 11, and a son Remington, 9. Blackstock also had two older children from a previous marriage: a daughter Savannah, 23, and a son Seth, 18,

Jones worked as Clarkson’s personal assistant from 2018 until 2022. This was right in the thick of Clarkson and Blackstock’s marital troubles. Indeed, Clarkson and Blackstock were married from 2013 until she filed for divorce in 2020, citing “irreconcilable differences” at the time. A bitter divorce battle ensued as they fought it out over custody, finances, and property.

It wasn’t until 2022 that the divorce was actually finalized. By then, it seems that Jones may already have begun her relationship with Blackstock.

It should be noted that during this same time period, Jones herself was married to someone else. She married the Gypsey Nights drummer Greg LaPoint in August of 2021. They divorced in the summer of 2023, with sources saying their split came after LaPoint learned that Jones was cheating on him with Blackstock. Find out more about that here.

Jones Moved To Montana For Blackstock

According to the original source, Jones uprooted her life just to move to Montana with Blackstock.

“Brittany moved to Montana to work with Brandon,” the insider alleged. “After leaving the entertainment industry, she worked with him to build Valley View Rodeo.”

‘Brandon was very private, especially after leaving the entertainment industry — but his family embraced his relationship with Brittney,” this insider claimed.

According to Jones’ LinkedIn profile, which has since been deleted, she managed the “day to day artist schedule” for Clarkson during her time as her assistant. Jones was additionally responsible for “setting final stage details” and “the management of onsite runners and float.”

“Brittney worked with Kelly during Kelly and Brandon’s marriage, so Kelly has a lot of history with Brittney,” the source stated.

Jones was also working as Blackstock’s assistant during this time. She “managed [his] schedule … arranged meetings and calls” for him.

Blackstock’s Obituary Highlights Jones

Jones was highlighted in Blackstock’s official obituary. There, she was described as his “beautiful and loving partner in life and business.”

“Brandon, along with his beautiful and loving partner in life and business, Brittney Marie Jones, started building a life, building companies and working tirelessly to create Headwaters Livestock Auction and what will live on as his legacy, The Valley View Rodeo in Bozeman, Montana,” the obituary read.

Jones’ father Larry also paid tribute to Blackstock in a gushing social media tribute after his death.

“Yesterday, we lost a good man, Brandon Blackstock, my daughter’s soulmate and I considered him my son,” Larry wrote in a Facebook post that has since been deleted. “My sincere condolences to Brittney Jones and family. We’re sure going to miss your funny humor. R.I.P hoss!”

Clarkson’s Feelings On This

As for Clarkson, she understandably didn’t take Blackstock dating her former assistant well. Last week, an insider told Daily Mail that Blackstock dating Jones “was just the icing on the cake of the disappointment [Clarkson] felt over the delusion of their marriage.”

“Brandon chose to move on with someone Kelly knew and trusted. And that just adds to the person he ended up being to her,” the insider continued. “He was a great father, but wasn’t a great husband.”

Though Clarkson was disappointed that Blackstock decided to move on with someone that she “knew and trusted,” the insider stressed that the original American Idol winner “doesn’t blame” Jones. Clarkson is also reportedly eager to “drama from her fanbase” when it comes to this issue.

“When Brandon dealt more and more with his cancer, Kelly’s only goal was to make sure her kids were OK and to let him live his personal life any way he wanted to live it,” the source explained.

Meanwhile, when it comes to Clarkson’s current relationship with Jones, the insider said, “Kelly knew that Brittney wasn’t going to be a problem with her and her kids. There was never a misunderstanding between them.”

Clarkson Is ‘Devastated

Moving forward, Clarkson’s focus is on the two young children that she shared with Blackstock. She is reportedly “devastated” that the two of them have lost their father.

“When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake,” an insider told People Magazine after Blackstock’s death. “Kelly has always tried to keep things classy. It became clear earlier this year that Brandon was not doing well. She’s been devastated for the kids.”

This has clearly been a very difficult situation for everyone involved. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Clarkson and her two children as they mourn this loss.
