We previously reported that Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband Brandon Blackstock last Thursday at the age of 48. This tragically came after a private three year battle with cancer. Now, Clarkson’s fans are in shock as it’s been revealed that Blackstock was dating the singer’s assistant at the time of his death.
Blackstock’s Obituary Bombshell
Blackstock’s official obituary has revealed that when he passed away, he had a “loving partner” in the form of Brittney Marie Jones. Indeed, it seems that before his death, Blackstock was building a life in Montana with Jones.
“After more than 20 years in the music business, Brandon found his way back to the mountains and the cowboy way of life he always wanted to live,” the obituary read. “He found a homestead and a love in Butte, Montana.’
“Brandon, along with his beautiful and loving partner in life and business, Brittney Marie Jones, started building a life, building companies, and working tirelessly to create Headwaters Livestock Auction and what will live on as his legacy, The Valley View Rodeo in Bozeman, Montana,” it continued.
However, much to the shock of fans everywhere, it has since been revealed that Jones was previously Clarkson’s assistant. This was confirmed by a December of 2024 report on Blackstock and Jones’ rodeo business. In this report, Jones was listed as Clarkson’s “former assistant.”
Jones’ History
A previous LinkedIn profile for Jones states that she was an executive assistant to Brandon Blackstock. It also says that she was an assistant to Clarkson while Blackstock managed the singer.
“I successfully assistant managed day to day for artist, Kelly Clarkson under manager, Brandon Blackstock in Los Angeles for music and television,” read the LinkedIn profile, according to The Sun.
“After a change in management for Ms. Clarkson, I transitioned to Executive Assistant for Mr. Blackstock’s cattle operation in Montana, where I currently run the office and handle administration work,” it added. “I also currently fulfill personal assistant duties for Mr. Blackstock.”
The profile went on to say that Jones was an Executive Assistant of V Bar V Cattle Co. LLC, formerly Vintage Valley Ranch. This is a company that was previously owned by Blackstock, further linking Jones to him.
Jones was previous married to Greg Goose LaPoint, with the two of them tying the knot in September of 2021. It is unclear when exactly they split.
Blackstock’s Marriages
Blackstock was married twice during his life. His first wife was Melissa Ashworth, who he married in 1999. They had a daughter Savannah, 23, and a son Seth, 18, before they divorced in 2012. Blackstock then married Clarkson the very next year in 2013. They had a daughter River, 11, and a son Remington, 9, before they split in 2020, with their divorce being finalized in 2022 after some bitter legal battles.
While Clarkson has never commented on Blackstock moving on with her former assistant, it had to have stung for her, given how open she was about the trust that she had in her husband during their marriage.
“This isn’t a downer to anybody I dated before him, but I’m just going to be real: I never felt like, honestly, sexually attracted to anybody before him,” Clarkson told People Magazine in 2017. “And I’m not downing my exes. You know, everybody’s different. But there was something about him.”
Clarkson even hired Blackstock to be her manager during their time together.
“I wouldn’t have hired Brandon to be my manager if I didn’t see first-hand how great he is at that and how much he cares about Blake [Shelton],” Clarkson told Marie Claire in 2018. “And the way that [Blake’s] career has blown up, I would have hired Brandon regardless. He’s really talented at what he does and his mind really does work in a completely different way.”
Clarkson Left ‘Devastated’
In the wake of Blackstock’s death, Clarkson’s focus has been on their two children.
“When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake,” an insider told People Magazine. “Kelly has always tried to keep things classy. It became clear earlier this year that Brandon was not doing well. She’s been devastated for the kids.”
