Back in April, we reported that the country music star Billy Ray Cyrus is dating the British Austin Powers star Elizabeth Hurley. Since then, the unlikely couple has been going strong, and they seem to be madly in love.
Now, Billy Ray’s singer daughter Miley Cyrus is speaking out to reveal her real thoughts about her father’s new romance.
Miley Sounds Off
“I think timing is everything,” Miley, 32, told The New York Times on Saturday. “As I’ve gotten older, I’m respecting my parents as individuals instead of as parents — because my mom really loved my dad for her whole life, and I think being married to someone in the music industry and not being a part of it is obviously really hard.”
Miley’s mother Tish, 58, divorced Billy Ray, 63, in 2022 after 29 years of marriage. Miley admitted that when her parents split, she “took on some of my mom’s hurt as my own, because it hurt her more than it hurt me as an adult.”
“I owned a lot of her pain,” she explained.
Tish has since moved on, as she married the Australian actor Dominic Purcell in 2023. This has helped Miley to get an entirely new perspective on her parents’ situation.
“But now that my mom is so in love with my stepdad, who I completely adore, and now that my dad, I see him finding happiness, too — I can love them both as individuals instead of as a parental pairing. I’m being an adult about it.” Miley stated. This was a clear reference to Billy Ray’s new romance with Elizabeth, 59.
Miley went on to say that it took time for her to accept her parents’ divorce.
“At first it’s hard, because the little kid in you reacts before the adult in you can go, ‘Yes, that’s your dad, but that’s just another person that deserves to be in his bliss and to be happy,'” she concluded. “My child self has caught up.”
Elizabeth And Billy Ray’s Romance
Elizabeth and Billy Ray revealed their relationship to the world last month on Easter Sunday. The actress shared a photo of the two of them kissing while Billy Ray wore bunny ears for the holiday.
“Happy Easter ♥️,” Elizabeth captioned that Instagram post.
Elizabeth has since spoken out to say that he sees this relationship as being a gift from God.
“It’s just been beautiful,” Billy Ray said last month. He proceeded to add that there are “no expectations of where we go from here other than her and her son. I do love him a lot, and it’s great that God brought them into my life when he did. It’s just a good thing.”
“It’s been a long time since I’ve been this happy,” he continued.

Elizabeth And Billy Ray’s History
Elizabeth and Billy Ray first met when they appeared together in the 2022 movie Christmas in Paradise. Though they hit it off on set, they lost touch once filming ended. However, they recently reconnected when Elizabeth texted Billy Ray out of the blue. At the time, Billy Ray was in the midst of a bitter divorce from his third wife, the singer Firerose.
“I felt like, ‘Wow, can life get any harder? Can it get any tougher?’ For me, at a certain point, it was like, ‘You can’t get knocked down any flatter than laying on your back when life is kicking you,’” Billy Ray recalled. “And, in this moment, this hand kind of reached out in a text message, not a physical hand, as in the one you saw in the picture. That’d be good. A friend reached out.”
Billy Ray initially “didn’t even know the number” of the person texting him. The message that he got read something like, “Hey, it looks like life might be a little bit tough and just wanted you to know I’m in your corner; you’ve got a friend in your corner.”
“So, I text back, I go, ‘Who is this?’ And it’s like, ‘Elizabeth Hurley.’ Of all the people to reach out to me in that second that maybe I needed most,” Billy Ray recounted. “This friend that made me laugh.”
Elizabeth Weighs In On Relationship With Billy Ray
Many were shocked by Billy Ray and Elizabeth’s romance, as they are seen as polar opposites. Indeed, he’s a country music star from Tennessee while she’s a posh British actress and socialite. According to Elizabeth, however, they actually have far more in common than meets the eye.
“I think people found Billy and I being together a little surprising,” Elizabeth told Page Six earlier this month. “It’s not surprising to me because we’re actually quite similar and get on extremely well.”
“We both like to laugh a lot, and we both love the country,” she explained. “And we both love country music, both love movies. We’ve got a lot in common — and cowboy boots, definitely.”

Billy Ray has had his ups and downs with Miley over the years. Though they famously starred together in the sitcom Hannah Montana during her teenage years, they have been estranged at times throughout her adult life.
