Mike Myers gave a tear-jerking speech as he collected the Icon Award at the Canadian Screen Awards in Toronto.
Getting Emotional

The 63‑year‑old comedian, best known for Wayne’s World, Austin Powers, and Shrek, choked up as he paid tribute to the place that launched his career.
He said at the bash on Sunday, “I just want to say, Canada, I don’t know what to say, dude. I’d just really be nothing without you.”
He admitted he’d prepared a long speech about his love for Canada, but joked, “I suspect some of you might be sick of hearing that at this point.”
Myers also thanked his parents “for moving to Canada and stressing the importance of being silly.”
Saturday Night Live Appearance
Earlier this year, Myers made headlines during a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live, where he delivered a not‑so‑subtle message aimed at Donald Trump’s recent comments suggesting Canada should become America’s “51st state.”
Myers appeared during the closing credits wearing a T‑shirt emblazoned with a Canadian flag and the slogan “Canada Is Not for Sale.” He repeatedly adjusted his vest to make sure the message was visible – a direct response to Trump’s posts on Truth Social claiming many Canadians would welcome a merger with the US and arguing it would make the country “TOTALLY SECURE.”
Myers even mouthed “elbows up” to the camera, a phrase borrowed from hockey and boxing that has become a rallying cry for Canadians pushing back against Trump’s proposed 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian goods. Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew previously used the same phrase while urging Canadians not to be “a punching bag.”
The SNL cameo also saw Myers return to sketch comedy, playing Elon Musk in a parody of Trump’s White House exchange with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Support for Myers
Fans quickly flooded social media with support. One viewer wrote, “‘Elbows up’ says Mike Myers! That’s Canadian code talk!”
Another added, “Refreshing seeing Mike Myers on SNL tonight standing up for our country. Elbows up Canada!!!”
Myers was born in Ontario and has citizenship in Canada, the US, and the UK.
