Over the past few months, rumors have been swirling that Barack and Michelle Obama are heading for divorce. These claims allege that Barack and Michelle have been living “separate lives” for quite some time.
Now, Michelle is speaking out to throw some shade at the comedian Ellen DeGeneres as these rumors continue to escalate.
Michelle Recalls Ellen Experience
On Tuesday, Michelle sat down with the former Saturday Night Live! star Amy Poelher for her podcast Good Hang with Amy Poehler. There, Michelle slammed Ellen for challenging her to a pushup contest during her time as First Lady.
Michelle, 61, brought up this infamous pushup contest when Amy, 53, asked her if she can still do pushups.
“Now I do them on my knees,” Michelle admitted. “This is another thing. I don’t need to do regular push-ups. I have nothing to prove….I can but it’s my hand. My arm length doesn’t go all the way down. You know who pointed that out was Ellen because my first term, she challenged me to a push-up competition.”
“I’m the first lady, you know,” a visibly frustrated Michelle recalled. “And she heard that I worked out. So I’m on her show doing push-ups and I did more push-ups than her but she still says I didn’t go down all the way. Anatomically, I don’t think I can. My arms are very long and she’s a much smaller person than me.”
Ellen challenged Michelle to a pushup contest when the then-First Lady appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in February of 2012. The topic soon turned to Michelle’s workout routine. When asked if Michelle could do pushups, she replied, “I can do some.”
“I was just wondering if you could do more push-ups than I could do,” Ellen stated.
Michelle fired back by saying, “You know, it depends on how your back is. I know you’ve got these back issues.”

Obama Divorce Rumors
This comes at a difficult time for Michelle. Indeed, rumors have been swirling for months that she’s divorcing Barack. These rumors escalated back in January, when Michelle skipped both the funeral of Jimmy Carter and the inauguration of Donald Trump. Indeed, she was the only living former First Lady to miss both of these events.
“I have been hearing this rumor that the Obamas are getting a divorce by reputable people,” political commentator Meghan McCain said on reporter Tara Palmeri’s podcast back in January. “I’m not talking about TMZ, I’m not talking about Perez Hilton, although I love him, he’s my friend.”
“I’m talking about like very serious journalists telling me that they’re hearing that the Obama divorce rumors are true,” she added.
“We’ve heard that for a long time,” replied Tara, who has long covered Washington politics. “Like I just heard that they live separate lives.”

Ellen Flees America
Meanwhile, Ellen has fled the country. The Ellen DeGeneres Show went off the air in 2022 after 19 seasons. This came after Ellen was accused of presiding over a toxic workplace on the set of this talk show. In November, Ellen left America with her actress wife Portia de Rossi of Arrested Development fame.
“Make no mistake about it. This is Ellen and Portia’s retirement,” a source close to the couple told Daily Mail at the time. “Neither one of them have any projects lined up.”
“Ellen really felt she had made her mark on the industry, but that was diminished when she was cancelled over her alleged treatment of her staff,” the insider added. “Then to have celebrities call her out one by one was so hurtful.”

Ellen undoubtedly won’t be happy that Michelle is now speaking out against her as well. Regardless, it will certainly be interesting to see if there is in fact any truth to the Obama divorce rumors in the weeks and months to come!
