Over the past few months, rumors have been swirling that Barack and Michelle Obama are heading for divorce. These claims allege that Barack and Michelle have been living “separate lives” for quite some time.
Now, Michelle is adding fuel to these rumors in a big way. Indeed, she’s admitted that she is currently in therapy as she is “transitioning” to the “next phase” of her life.
Michelle Admits She’s In Therapy
“At this phase of my life, I’m in therapy right now because I’m transitioning, you know?” Michelle, 61, said while appearing on the Jay Shetty Podcast. “I’m 60 years old, I finished a really hard thing in life with my family intact. I’m an empty nester. You know my girls are in — they’ve been launched. And now for the first time, as I’ve said before, every choice I’m making is completely mine.”
“I now don’t have the excuse of, ‘Well my kids need this,’ or ‘my husband needs that’ or ‘the country needs that,'” she added. “So how do I think about this next phase, and let me get some help.”
Michelle Is An ‘Advocate’ For Therapy
Michelle went on to say that she is a longtime “advocate” of therapy.
“Let me unwind some old habits,” she explained. “Let me sort through some old guilt that I’ve been carrying around…let me talk about how my relationship with my mother has affected how I think about things.”
“So, I’m getting that tune-up for this next phase because I believe this is a whole other phase in life for me,” she continued. “And I now have the wisdom to know— let me go get some coaching while I’m doing it so that I have other voices other than the people who know me best. I’ve got a new person that’s getting to know me, and seeing me completely new and hearing all these emotions.”

Obama Divorce Rumors
Rumors have been swirling for months that the Obamas are heading for divorce. These rumors escalated back in January, when Michelle didn’t attend the funeral of Jimmy Carter and the inauguration of Donald Trump. Instead, Barack had to attend these events alone. Indeed, Michelle was the only living former First Lady to not attend the events, which raised some serious eyebrows.
“I have been hearing this rumor that the Obamas are getting a divorce by reputable people,” political commentator Meghan McCain said on reporter Tara Palmeri’s podcast at the time. “I’m not talking about TMZ, I’m not talking about Perez Hilton, although I love him, he’s my friend.”
“I’m talking about like very serious journalists telling me that they’re hearing that the Obama divorce rumors are true,” she added.
“We’ve heard that for a long time,” replied Tara, who has long covered Washington politics. “Like I just heard that they live separate lives.”

Michelle has attempted to shoot down rumors that she’s divorcing Barack. However, she has to be aware that talking about “transitioning” to the “next phase” of her life will only cause these divorce rumors to spread further.
