The pop star Taylor Swift married the Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce in a lavish ceremony at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Friday, July 3. This didn’t sit well with the former Fox News host Megyn Kelly, who has since fired back by torching Swift for this.
Kelly Eviscerates Swift
“It’s like, at first I really did not believe that she and he would get married at Madison Square Garden. It’s so on the nose in terms of like, attention getting, and just so gauche,” Kelly, 55, said on a recent episode of her podcast, The Megyn Kelly Show.
Swift, 36, drew widespread criticism for her multi-day wedding event, which closed streets in midtown Manhattan and reportedly costs millions of dollars. Indeed, critics slammed the wedding event as being “tacky” and “performative.”
“This should never happen for a private event,” read one viral social media post. “No one private citizen, no matter how wealthy, famous, and/or popular, should have the power to shut down this much of a city for a private event.”
“Billionaires are a policy failure, tax the rich,” the post added. “All the rich.”
Kelly’s guest, Daily Mail columnist Maureen Callahan, said that “this is like a 7-year-old’s idea of what a grand wedding is.” She then went so far as to describe it as being “Taylor’s big fat Disney wedding.”
Kelly chimed back in to take the opportunity to take a dig at Meghan Markle, the wife of Prince Harry.
“You know, she’s got a little Meghan Markle in her. Where, notwithstanding the fact that we all know who she is, she’s got to make sure she’s reminding us all she’s relevant. She’s everywhere. ‘Admire me, look at me,’” Kelly said. “So, yeah, it actually does kind of track.”
Callahan was quick to agree, predicting that Swift’s wedding will “be a Netflix special.”
Swift And Kelce’s Wedding
No cameras were allowed at Swift and Kelce’s wedding. However, sources who attended have since spoken out to offer details on what it was like inside.
“It looked like a forest,” an insider told People Magazine.
The source went on to say that during the ceremony, “Taylor walked down the aisle to a stage where they said ‘I do.'”
“Their vows were about 20 minutes each,” the insider continued. The source added that Swift and Kelce, 36, read them from gold books.
“After the ceremony, Taylor’s mom invited everyone into the reception room where a stage was set up,” the insider stated. According to this source, Paul McCartney performed The Beatles’ beloved hit “I Want to Hold Your Hand.” Stevie Nicks reportedly performed at the reception as well.
Swift And Kelce’s History
Swift and Kelce had been dating for nearly three years before their wedding. They got engaged in August of 2025.
“He really crushed it when it came to surprising me,” Swift said of their engagement in October of 2025. “We had actually filmed a podcast episode — he has a podcast called New Heights — so we filmed the podcast for about three or four hours … and meanwhile behind his house, he was having the whole back garden turned into this.”
“And one of the things that he put in there, very strategically, was a wall of hedges that weren’t there before. And inside the hedges was my tour photographer hiding in bushes that had not previously been there,” she continued. “He went all out — 10 out of 10.”
Swift and Kelce are arguably the most famous couple in the world right now. Though their wedding was a huge deal to many, we can certainly understand the frustrations of Kelly and other New Yorkers who had to deal with street closures all over Manhattan for it. That being said, we still wish Swift and Kelce the best of luck in their marriage!
