It’s been one week since Meghan Markle’s new show With Love, Meghan dropped on Netflix. Since then, it has been widely panned by critics and fans alike.

And now, unfortunately for Meghan, even her own dad is getting in on the action.

‘Meghan Has Never Been Authentic’

Many critics have said that Meghan comes off as “inauthentic” in this new show. Her estranged father Thomas Markle can’t help but agree.

“Unfortunately, Meghan has never been authentic,” Thomas Markle told Daily Mail. “She has to think about everything. She’s not spontaneous. Everything she says is pre-planned and rehearsed. It makes me laugh because I know all her looks and expressions.”

“I know when she’s faking it for the cameras,” Thomas continued. “She’s trying so hard to be perfect that she tenses up every time the camera is on her.”

Thomas knows what he’s talking about when it comes to this. Indeed, the 80 year-old was a renowned TV lighting director and director of photography who worked on shows like Married… with Children and General Hospital. He even won an Emmy Award for his work. Taking from his decades of experience in the industry, Thomas explained that “cooking shows are horrendously boring unless the presenter has a passion for it.”

Still, it’s a little hard to fathom why he would be so critical of his own daughter.

“You have to be authentic to hold people’s attention,” he advised. “… The best cooks are funny, they mess up, they are human. She just wants to be perfect. It’s sad because she’s trying so hard to stay in the limelight.”

Given how successful her dad was in Hollywood, perhaps Meghan should have gone to him for advice before filming With Love, Meghan. Had she done that, maybe it would have turned out a little better!

Thomas Shoots Down Meghan’s Childhood Claim

Meghan has long tried to downplay the privilege that she grew up with. In her Netflix show, she described herself as “a latchkey kid” who “grew up on a lot of fast food and TV dinners.” Thomas, however, revealed that he was working two jobs in Hollywood, “so money was never an issue.”

“We occasionally ate TV dinners, which family doesn’t?” he recalled. “We would eat out at least three times a week and order in the rest of the time.”

“Like any single father who did a long day’s work, I’d occasionally put a TV dinner in the microwave,” he stated. “But most of the time we’d go out. After school, I would either pick her up myself, and we’d go out to eat, or I’d send a car to bring her to the set. She grew up on the sets I worked on. She was never a latchkey kid.”

Despite what Meghan has said, it seems like she had it pretty good growing up.

“We lived in a great area, which was packed with restaurants,” Thomas remembered. “We ate out all the time. At weekends when I wasn’t working, I’d take her to a dance class and then invite her and all her friends out for a meal.”

Thomas also said that Meghan never showed much interest in cooking. Given the fact that her show is about her alleged longtime love of cooking, that will only add to the “inauthentic” claims being made about her.

Meghan And Thomas’ Estrangement

Meghan and Thomas have been estranged since just before her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry. Thomas suffered two heart attacks that stopped him from attending the ceremony. He believes his daughter hasn’t forgiven him, though even he’s not exactly sure for what.

“I still don’t know why she dumped me,” he lamented.

In the end, it’s not looking good for Meghan when it comes to finding success with Netflix longterm. Only time will tell if she is ever able to actually get a bonafide hit!
