Meghan Markle, the wife of Prince Harry, has taken quite a bit of heat over the past few weeks. Indeed, there has been tons of backlash over both Meghan’s Netflix show With Love, Meghan and her lifestyle brand As Ever.

Now, however, it seems that Meghan might be getting the last laugh, at least with the latter.

Meghan Sells Out As Ever Products After Limited Drop

Meghan’s As Ever products reportedly sold out in less than an hour upon their limited release. They reportedly sold out despite their notoriously high prices.

In other words, Meghan figured it out!

Meghan wasted no time in celebrating this news on social media.

“Our shelves may be empty, but my heart is full! We sold out in less than one hour and I can’t thank you enough…for celebrating, purchasing, sharing, and believing,” Meghan, 43, wrote on Instagram. “It’s just the start @aseverofficial Here we go!”

It should be noted that the first drop from Meghan’s As Ever line featured only eight items. Each of these products were inspired by her love for cooking, entertaining and hostessing. These items included “limited quantities of a crêpe mix, shortbread cookie mix, a few flavors of tea, flower sprinkles, honey and a raspberry spread,” according to Fox News.

Social Media Users Fire Back

These products managed to sell out despite backlash over their high prices. For example, Meghan was selling the jar of honey for $28. Meanwhile, she sold her raspberry spread in keepsake packages for $14.

Social media users were quick to sound off on Meghan’s high prices. Some even questioned if she should really be boasting about selling out these items, given the fact that she only put “limited qualities” up for sale in the first place.

“She never sold out…she had limited quantity to begin with…a very old marketing strategy,” one social media user commented. “People who are buying these products from her really need a mental check up.”

“Definitely cheaper than I thought but still WAY overpriced-and like I suspected-sold out,” a second user added. “That means nothing, just scarcity marketing. And as I mentioned before it’s easy to sell out when you don’t have that much in stock.”

“You paid $14 for ‘spread’ that costs 3-4 bucks at any local grocery store,” a third user wrote. “So funny watching the squad lose all their money to a narcissist and sociopath. It’s richly deserved!”

Nevertheless, a win is a win.

PR Expert Weighs In

Meghan’s As Ever drop was timed around the March 4 release of her Netflix series With Love, Meghan. Public relations experts had warned at the time that the fact that so many people view Meghan as “unlikable” will be a “high hurdle” to climb when it comes to making both a brand and a Netflix show a success.

“Many people, whether rightly or wrongly, viewed Markle as unlikable, and that’s an incredibly high hurdle to clear if you’re trying to launch a brand and sell a show,” said PR expert Doug Eldridge. “Relatability is a key factor in developing likability, both of which are needed for marketability.”

“If you look at the variables in the overarching ‘branding equation,’ this is an instance where Markle is seemingly stepping back and reworking the math,” he continued. “All of this, however, hinges on one final variable: authenticity. If the audience thinks she comes off as more tactical than transparent, the scaffolding will crumble quickly.”

Whether releasing a limited number of items in the hopes of selling out quickly was a marketing strategy or not, it certainly seems that Meghan is in celebration mode at the moment. However, only time will tell if she is really able to make As Ever a success moving forward.
