Meghan Markle, the wife of Prince Harry, has allegedly spent the past few weeks begging Netflix to renew their $100 million contract, which expires next month. Unfortunately for Meghan, however, it seems that her efforts have failed in a truly humiliating way.

Meghan And Harry’s Netflix Downgrade

Meghan, 44, and Harry, 40, have signed a new “multi-year, first look deal for film and television projects” with Netflix. This is nothing short of a major downgrade from the previous Netflix deal that they had, much to their embarrassment.

The new arrangement that Meghan and Harry have with Netflix is a first look deal. This means that Netflix will have the option to say yes or no to new film and television deals from the couple before anyone else can.

Meghan and Harry desperately tried to spin the new deal in a positive light as they jointly announced it with Netflix. According to them, this deal is “extending their creative partnership” through Archewell Productions.

According to experts, however, this deal is nothing to celebrate. Especially compared to the lucrative $100 million Netflix deal that Meghan and Harry signed in 2020.

Under that deal, Meghan and Harry could get virtually any project they wanted green-lit. This resulted in multiple major flops for Netflix, including the docuseries Polo and the recent With Love, Meghan. It appears that Netflix has finally realized that Meghan and Harry simply don’t have their fingers on the pulse of what the public actually wants to watch.

‘Netflix Is Trimming Fat…’

“They have shot the golden goose of 2020 – more of a ‘we’ll call you’ than ‘here’s the checkbook,'” leading publicist Mark Borkowski told Daily Mail. “It’s a first-look deal, which means Netflix gets first dibs but no obligation to bankroll every semi-royal whim.”

“I reckon Netflix is trimming fat industry-wide, so this is less carte blanche, more curated cameo,” he continued. “They’re still in business together. Meghan’s As ever brand and seasonal specials keep them in the Netflix shop window but make no mistake, this is a slimmed-down sequel to the blockbuster original. So Harry & Meghan’s new Netflix chapter less champagne budget, more Prosecco by the glass.”

Meghan and Harry started off strong at Netflix with their 2022 documentary Harry & Meghan, which they used to shamelessly bash and mock the royal family. That documentary scored 23.4million views and became the most viewed documentary ever through its first four days.

Once Meghan and Harry had exhausted all of their anti-royal anecdotes, however, it was all downhill for their Netflix efforts from there.

Indeed, Meghan’s recent docuseries With Love, Meghan failed to crack the top 300 at Netflix. In fact, it came in at 383 when it came to the most viewed Netflix shows for the first half of 2025. Meanwhile, Harry’s passion project Polo currently ranks 3,436 out of around 7,000 shows on Netflix.

It doesn’t get much more humiliating than that, folks!

Meghan’s Netflix Dreams Are ‘Dead’

Last month, Netflix insiders spoke out to say that Meghan’s deal with the streaming service is “dead” in the water.

“This deal is dead. She had everything going for her – name, platform, press – and the numbers were dismal,” one source said. “They’re just waiting for the credits to roll. They’re letting it expire without drama. There’s no appetite for anything new.”

Another insider took this even further, saying that all of Hollywood wants nothing to do with Meghan and Harry.

“No one in Hollywood rates them anymore or wants to be around them, especially her,” this source told Daily Mail last month. “People are bored with them.”

“The Netflix deal not being renewed will have a big impact on them as they are running out of options of who will work with them and reap in the future,” the insider concluded. “As Ever has a good fan base and a strong database of subscribers to its newsletter but consistency is key and it’s not delivering on this so people will quickly be bored and the novelty is wearing off now for most.”

After stepping down as senior royals in 2020, Meghan and Harry were sure that they were about to become the toasts of Hollywood. Instead, it’s been one fail after another for them when it comes to trying to make it in the entertainment world.

It might be time for Meghan and Harry to figure out another way to make money. In the end, Hollywood success simply isn’t in the cards for these two!
