It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Meghan Markle, the wife of Prince Harry.
An increasing number of reports are surfacing accusing Meghan of bad behavior. Specifically, she’s been accused of being a bully in work environments and disaster tourism. Meanwhile, the release of Meghan’s new Netflix series With Love, Meghan was pushed back amidst the Los Angeles wildfires.
Now, Meghan has been hit with an allegation that is arguably the worst one yet.
Was Meghan ‘Flirting’ With William?
Royal staffers are claiming that Meghan was accused of “flirting” Harry’s older brother Prince William, likely the next King of England. These rumors surfaced among staffers during Meghan’s time living in the United Kingdom as a working royal. Staffers told The Times that Meghan raised eyebrows with her habit of “hugging everyone” whenever she saw them.
William, his wife Kate Middleton, and his father King Charles were all seen flinching whenever Meghan would move in to hug them. It was reportedly William, however, who was the most uncomfortable with her embraces of that trio.
One can imagine it might be a tad uncomfortable to have your little brother’s wife getting too familiar. Add in the fact of William’s royal position, and you can see the problem.
“Meghan hugged him virtually every time they bumped into each other,” The Times reported after speaking to various royal staffers. “The hugging and cheek-kissing fueled gossip among the staff that Meghan was flirting with William, which she was obviously not, but the tense atmosphere caused by all the touchy-feeliness (and the resultant gossip) deepened the rift between the brothers.”
Meghan’s Issue With The Royals
As for Meghan, she had her own issues with the royals. She specifically took issue with the way she felt Harry was treated in comparison to William.
“She spotted immediately that Harry wasn’t quite as central to things as his brother, William,” claimed a member of Meghan’s former communications team. “I don’t think Harry had even thought much about the fact that he was a spare until well into his marriage. I think she was oversensitive on Harry’s behalf and convinced herself he was being treated as completely unimportant.”
Meghan also struggled to adapt to the many rules that members of the royal family must follow. As an American, she didn’t even have familiarity with the British royal customs.
“Meghan really disliked the hierarchy,” a member of her former team said. “Many of the rules do seem pretty pointless and exist only so that the relative status of each senior royal is protected. And the senior royals are such a sensitive bunch — if one gets a gold pen or a new car, they all want one. Meghan thought they behaved like babies.”

‘The Old Guard’ Despised Meghan
Meghan was eager to make changes from within the royal family. Let’s just say this didn’t go over well.
“When someone arrives from the United States and tries to change things, the old guard really don’t like it. And the old guard are terrific snobs,” claimed a former Kensington Palace staffer. “They have to be less obviously snobbish today, but it’s still there.”
This entire situation exploded in early 2020, when Meghan and Harry stepped down as senior royals. They then moved across the world to Southern California, where Meghan was born and raised. They have spent the past five years in a rift with the British royal family.
Indeed, the resurfacing of old rumors among staffers that Meghan was “flirting” with William will likely do nothing to heal this bitter estrangement. In the end, it seems that this rift won’t be healed anyime soon.
