In the crazy world of Hollywood, it’s rare to find a marriage that is actually able to stand the test of time. That’s what makes the 40-year marriage between Maureen MccCormick, best known for playing Marcia Brady on the beloved sitcom The Brady Bunch, and her husband Michael Cummings so special!
In a new interview, McCormick and Cummings are revealing the secret behind their long-lasting union. What they had to say will be nothing short of inspiring to anyone who is looking for love.
Secret To McCormick’s Marriage Success
“You’ve got to have a sense of humor about things,” Cummings, 67, told People Magazine. “You can’t take things too seriously. You got to let things go and just love the one you’re with. It’s a lifetime deal.”
“Celebrate the differences,” added McCormick, 69.
The couple began dating in the early 80s. Surprisingly, both McCormick and Cummings knew that this was the relationship for them “right away.”
“I didn’t know who she was, but I liked what I saw,” recalled Cummings, who is also an actor.
For McCormick, it was a positive that Cummings didn’t know about her past acting career as a child star. She found this to be “very refreshing for me because [he had] no pre-conceived ideas about who I was. It was really wonderful.”
Love At First Sight
For both Cummings and McCormick, it was love at first sight.
“I saw those eyes and just fell in love,” Cummings fondly remembered.
As for McCormick, their connection was immediately apparent to her as well.
“Ever since I was little I wanted to get married and find somebody,” she explained. “It’s just the craziest thing, but I looked at his eyes, we were in a concert, and I just felt like he was the one.”
McCormick and Cummings married in 1985, and they’ve been together ever since. In 1989, McCormick gave birth to their only child, daughter Natalie Michelle Cummings.
When asked what they’re putting their energy into these days, McCormick replied, “Our daughter, our family, our friends. We love walking together. We love nature.”
McCormick and Cummings celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary back in March. When asked how they celebrated, the former Brady Bunch star responded, “Honestly, we haven’t stopped celebrating, because I think it’s taken a lot of work to be at this place in our relationship.”
“It’s better than ever,” she concluded. “We feel very grateful and thankful to have found each other.”
McCormick’s History
Cummings may not have known who McCormick was when he met her. However, the vast majority of America will always know her as Marcia Brady!
McCormick was just 13 years-old when she was cast as Marcia Brady in The Brady Bunch. She played the oldest daughter on the series for five seasons from 1969 until 1974. McCormick then reprised the role in several spinoff shows and movies.
Once The Brady Bunch ended, McCormick made guest appearances on other shows like The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, and Passions.
In 2016, McCormick competed on Dancing With The Stars, partnering with professional dancer Artem Chigvintsev. They managed to survive five weeks of competition before being eliminated, with McCormick coming in 8th place.
In a world where celebrities seem to be divorcing left and right, it’s refreshing to see someone like McCormick achieve decades of marriage success. We’d like to wish McCormick and Cummings a happy belated anniversary, and many more to come!
