Matthew McConaughey Reveals All About His Viral Tuna Salad Recipe

Matthew McConaughey is more than just an Oscar-winning Hollywood star. Indeed, according to him, he’s also a “tuna fish salad master maker,” and that revelation sent the internet into a tizzy.

Now, he’s opening up about the viral tuna salad recipe so many are curious about.

McConaughey’s Tuna Fish Salad Recipe

“I’m a tuna fish salad master maker,” McConaughey, 55, told the 2 Bears, 1 Cave podcast hosts Tom Segura and Bert Kreischer.

McConaughey went on to detail the “long list of all kinds of things” that go into making “badass tuna fish.”

“It starts with the base, you get the good tuna,” he began. McConaughey then said that he adds lemon,  vinegar and mayonnaise mixed with wasabi to make the base. His list of fixings also includes chopped red onions, finely diced dill pickles gherkins, crispy jalapeño slices, apple, agave, corn and frozen peas. 

As McConaughey’s final touch, he sits his tuna salad overnight.

“As you know, as every redneck knows, is it better right then?” he stated. “Or is it better covered after you put it in the fridge the next day it’s all coagulated, all the tastes are right, you’re sitting there now I’ve hit the home run.”

McConaughey’s Wife Gives Her Thoughts

McConaughey’s wife Camila told People Magazine last month that her husband makes a “great” tuna fish salad, which kicked off a frenzy.

“He’s a master at the tuna fish salad. Anybody that tries to replicate, it doesn’t come even close,” Camila said. “But it’s not just a traditional tuna salad. He puts all kinds of stuff in there. I don’t want to give his secrets away because I don’t know what he shared.”

Camila also revealed that their entire family loves to cook. She and McConaughey are parents to sons Levi, 16, and Livingston, 11, and daughter, Vida, 14.

“Everybody in the family cooks. Even my 11-year-old, he cooks Sunday breakfast and things like that, he gets in charge of that,” Camila gushed. “Everybody cooks, everybody helps clean. And when I need help from outside of the family, I get help too, because I feel like sometimes we need help and we got to ask for it.”

McConaughey’s Texas Life

Despite McConaughey being one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, he and his family live in Texas. Last month, McConaughey gushed over the “security” that he feels in the Lone Star State.

“This has always been home, I mean, there’s multiple reasons for [the move],” he said of Texas. “I mean, this is where I have a great relationship with time – meaning 60 seconds feels like a minute, a mile feels like a mile.”

“I like to live in a place and for a home to be a place where I have a good relationship with time,” McConaughey continued.
