On Thursday, the trailer dropped for Martha Stewart’s upcoming Netflix documentary Martha. In it, she shockingly admitted to cheating on her ex-husband Andrew Stewart, who she was married to for 29 years.
Martha Admits To Cheating On Her Husband
The context appears to be… revenge? Stewart’s admission came as she offered advice to younger women.
“Young women, listen to my advice, if you’re married and your husband starts to cheat on you, he’s a piece of […],” said Martha, 83. “Get out of that marriage.”
All well and good, as far as advice goes. But without further context, one would think that Stewart was simply reacting to the actions of her husband.
Apparently, that is not the case.
“Didn’t you have an affair early on?” a producer asked, to which Martha responded, “Yeah, but I don’t think Andy ever knew about that.”

Martha’s Relationship History
Martha and Andrew were married from 1961 until they divorced in 1990. They began dating when she was 19 and he was a 23 year-old student at Yale Law School. They welcomed their only child, a daughter named Alexis, in 1965.
After their divorce, Andrew married Martha’s former assistant, Robyn Fairclough, who was 21 years his junior. They have since divorced, and he is currently married to Shyla Nelson Stewart.
Meanwhile, Martha has never married again. However, she briefly dated the Oscar-winning Hollywood star Anthony Hopkins of The Silence Of The Lambs fame. Martha also dated the software architect Charles Simonyi on and off for 15 years, from 1993 to 2008.

Martha’s ‘Terrible’ Divorce
Last year, Martha revealed that she is single. She has previously admitted that her divorce from Andrew was “terrible” for her.
“Getting divorced was a terrible thing for me, because we were the first to divorce in my family,” Martha told People Magazine in 2022. “And that we haven’t spoken since the divorce is even more painful. But I’m very strong, and I’m very motivated to get on with life.”
“I have survived the rigors of time, of marriage, of childbearing, of building a business from scratch,” she continued. “I have survived very nicely, and I think I make the most of it.”
Martha’s mother Martha Kostyra, who died in 2007, said in 1995 that her daughter was “badly wounded” by the divorce.
“I don’t think she’ll ever get over it,” she added.

Martha’s Current Relationship Status
Last year, Martha opened up about her relationship status.
“I know a lot of eligible men,” she told E! News in 2023. “I think they really want a woman who will take care of them, so I’m still not quite in the position where I can take care of a man full-time because I work too much.”
“If I analyze my life, I think the work has taken precedence over the romance,” she continued. “I have a hard time making room for both and it’s not the highest priority that I have a boyfriend, but it would be nice!”
Martha went on to say that her two red flags are bad breath and a lack of generosity. She would like her next date to be something that is over the top, like helicoptering and yachting.
