It’s been a week and a half since the pop star Katy Perry went to space for eleven minutes as part of Jeff Bezos’ all-female Blue Origin crew. According to Daily Mail, this flight “ruined’ Perry’s career, as she’s been hit with major backlash in the days since then.

Now, Perry’s friend Luke Bryan is speaking out to reveal what his former American Idol co-judge after she returned to Earth.

Bryan Sounds Off

“I remember when I heard the news that she was going I was like, ‘Wow, that’s crazy that you’re getting to go,’” Bryan, 48, told E! News. “But now when she got back safe I was like, ‘Oh my god, wow. Awesome.’”

Bryan went on to reveal that he briefly caught up with Perry via text after she got back to Earth.

“I’ll be interested to hear her version of it,” he admitted. “She was just like, ‘It was just totally crazy.’ She didn’t really elaborate more than that. But I’m just glad everybody made it home safe.”

Bryan went on to say that he was very invested in Perry’s flight when it was actually happening.

“I was sucked into the moment,” he concluded.

More American Idol Folks Weigh In

Perry, 40, spent seven years serving as a judge on American Idol alongside Bryan and Lionel Richie, 75. The latter spoke out to say that while he wouldn’t go to space if his “life depended on it,” he knew immediately that Perry would enjoy it.

“When she said she was going to space I said, ‘You go right on,’” he explained. “I’ll stay right down here. I didn’t give her any advice because you know Katy. She’s going to do exactly what she wants to do. But let me just say this to you. I’m not going anywhere. I told her, ‘I’ll wait here.’ God bless it, she came back.”

The American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, 50, commented on Perry’s Blue Origin flight as well.

“I’m very, very happy that she did it and got back safely,” Seacrest said. “She’s braver than I am.”

Even Carrie Underwood, who replaced Perry on American Idol for this season, weighed in. She described the Blue Origin flight as being “crazy” and “amazing.” However, Underwood was quick to add that she is “good on the ground.”

Perry might be “good on the ground” as well now, given the amount of backlash she’s received for the Blue Origin mission.

Perry’s Immense Backlash

Perry went to space last Monday with CBS Mornings host Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen and Bezos’ fiancée, Lauren Sánchez.

Though the women seemed to have good intentions, their flight has since been ridiculed as being “tone deaf” and “embarrassing” by the public. Of all six women, Perry has seemingly been met with the most backlash and mockery. Indeed, it’s escalated to the point where she has some serious regrets about all of this.

“Katy doesn’t regret going to space. It was life changing. What she does regret is making a public spectacle out of it,” a source close to Perry told Daily Mail.

The insider went on to say that Perry “never expected the backlash.” In the end, the “Firework” singer has been left “disheartened” by the “uncalled for and upsetting” response to her Blue Origin mission.

We can certainly understand why Perry’s friends, including Bryan, are so relieved that she made it home safely. However, we can also see why celebrities will likely be thinking twice before going to space in the future, given the vast amount of heat that is currently on Perry.

Only time will tell if Perry’s career will ever recover from this!
