It’s been just over a week since the pop star Katy Perry went to space for eleven minutes as part of Jeff Bezos’ all-female Blue Origin crew. Unfortunately for her, however, Perry has since been met with serious backlash for taking part in this space journey, which many felt was both “tone deaf” and “embarrassing.”
Now, insiders are speaking out to reveal the regrets that Perry has about taking part in this Blue Origin flight. Indeed, it appears that the backlash has finally gotten to the “Firework” singer.
Perry’s Regrets About Blue Origin Mission
“Katy doesn’t regret going to space. It was life changing. What she does regret is making a public spectacle out of it,” a source close to Perry told Daily Mail.
Perry went to space last Monday with CBS Mornings host Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen and Bezos’ fiancée, Lauren Sánchez.
Perry brought a daisy on the mission with her in honor of her four year-old daughter Daisy, who she shares with her fiancé, the former Lord Of The Rings star Orlando Bloom. While in space, Perry serenaded the other women with a rendition of “What A Wonderful World.”
“It’s not about singing my songs…It’s about a collective energy in there. It’s about us, it’s about making space for future women and taking up space and belonging,” Perry said afterwards. “And it’s about this wonderful world that we see right out there and appreciating it. This is all for the benefit of Earth.”
When they returned to Earth just eleven minuted after launching, Perry dropped to her knees and kissed the ground upon emerging from the capsule.

More Regrets From Perry
The insider close to Perry admitted that the singer now regrets “kissing the ground” in this way. She also regrets the “close-up camera moments” that she had inside the capsule, including holding her daisy up to the camera. Perry additionally regrets singing “What A Wonderful World” and promoting her own setlist in space.
According to the source, Perry “regrets sharing the daisy with the world” and ultimately “wishes the video footage from inside the pod was never shown” at all.
The insider concluded by saying that Perry “never expected the backlash.” In the end, she’s been left “disheartened” by the “uncalled for and upsetting” response to her Blue Origin mission.

Perry’s Lifelong Space Dream
This has to be all the more disappointing for Perry, given how excited she was to take part in this mission. In fact, days before the launch, Perry had said that going to space was her lifelong dream.
“I have wanted to go to space for almost 20 years,” Perry told Elle. “I was investigating all of the possible commercial options. Even when Blue Origin was first talking about commercial travel to space, I was like, ‘Sign me up! I’m first in line.’ And then they called me, and I was like, ‘Really? I get an invite?’”
“And then they told me about it being the first all-female crew,” she continued. “I take pause in those moments and ask the universe to give me confirmations. And I really felt very sure when they sent me the picture of the space pod, because on the front of the pod is a feather, and that’s my mom’s nickname for me. And so I was like, ‘OK, I see it.’”
Perry is clearly singing a very different tune in the wake of the backlash that she’s received. Only time will tell if Perry is able to bounce back from this!
