We previously reported that the former Full House star Lori Loughlin has separated from her fashion designer husband Mossimo Giannulli after 28 years of marriage. This came five years after each of them served prison time for their respective roles in the infamous college admissions scandal.
Now, new details about Loughlin and Giannulli’s split are coming to light.
Loughlin, 61, and Giannulli, 62, made headlines back in 2019 when they were indicted for allegedly paying $500,000 to have their daughters Olivia Jade Giannulli and Isabella Rose Giannulli’s admitted to the University of Southern California as members of the crew team. They did this despite the fact that neither daughter had ever taken part in crew.
Though they initially fought the allegations against them, they finally gave in after a media firestorm that lasted for month. In May of 2020, Loughlin and Giannulli pleaded guilty to wire and mail fraud.
Loughlin was ultimately sentenced to two months in prison, serving out her sentence from October to December of 2020. Meanwhile, Giannulli was sentenced to five months behind bars. He began his sentence in November of 2020 and was released to home confinement in April of 2021.
Loughlin And Giannulli’s Marriage Falls Apart
A source close to Giannulli is saying that his marriage to Loughlin was “strong” before the college admissions scandal. Unfortunately for the former couple, however, the controversy changed everything for them both personally and professionally.
“Their marriage was very strong before the [expletive] hit the fan with the college admissions scandal. That totally derailed it,” the insider told Daily Mail. “His sales suffered. She lost Hallmark. They blamed each other, but he blamed her more.”
Another source close to Giannulli claimed that Loughlin was the “driving” force behind their strategy of getting their daughters into USC. Despite this, Giannulli feels that his reputation has suffered the most.
“The entire family was embarrassed and that was like a huge deal to Mossimo,” this insider explained. “It felt like he had built all this goodwill, publicly, and it was all gone. They were literally the butt of jokes on late night TV. There was this perception that they were rich, and the worst kind of rich people, who use their wealth for unfair advantages.”
“You forget, the narrative was so terrible,” the source continued. “They had the world, and it wasn’t enough for them. Their daughters had privilege, and that wasn’t enough for them. It was humiliating. And Lori was really the one who was driving that bus. She was the one who wanted to do the rowing pictures.”
Giannulli Was ‘Embarrassed’ By Scandal
After Loughlin and Giannulli served their respective prison sentences, it appeared that their marriage would survive. However, things went downhill in their relationship as time went on.
“She was really at the forefront, and Mossimo was embarrassed at what happened,” the insider stated. “His family is everything to him, and this was just shameful. So they never really recovered. There was a point when they had staggered jail sentences where it seemed like maybe they’d make it, but they didn’t.”
Another source alleged that Loughlin and Giannulli had been “living separate lives” for quite some time. This source predicted that Giannulli will “soon” begin dating another woman.
“They really have been living separate lives for a long time,” this source said. “After the scandal, they hunkered down, but it just was clearly borrowed time. Something died with that embarrassment. They were pretty strong before it. But that was the worst thing that could have happened to them both.”
“It killed the marriage and broke the family apart,” the insider added. “I know people won’t be sympathetic, but they made a really big mistake, and they paid a staggering price for it. I don’t know if he has someone else, or if she does. He’s certainly not talking about that to his friends if there’s someone on the side.”
“But I bet he finds another woman soon if he doesn’t already have one,” this source concluded. “That just seems pretty much like what he’d do.”
Loughlin’s Life Is Forever ‘Changed’
As for Loughlin, her life has been forever “changed” since the college admissions scandal.
“Lori’s life changed forever after the college scandal and going to prison,” said a source close to Loughlin. “It not only changed the dynamic with her and her Hollywood friends, it changed the dynamic in her relationship with Mossimo. Add to that Covid shutdowns, the last couple years just have not been an enjoyable experience in their relationship.”
“They weren’t even going through the motions, and just started to grow apart more and more,” this source continued. “And now that their daughters are all grown up, they don’t have to be in such a united front and be parents to little kids. It is looking very much that this separation is going to be permanent as they can’t get on the same page on living together anymore. The love is no longer there.”
It’s sad to see any marriage fall apart, particularly after so many years together. Please join us in saying a prayer for Loughlin and Giannulli as they navigate this new chapter of their lives!
