The Hollywood star Kurt Russell is speaking out to reveal why he and his Oscar-winning partner Goldie Hawn, who he has been dating for 43 years, made the decision to flee Los Angeles, California and move to a log cabin in Colorado.

Russell And Hawn Move To Colorado

Russell, 75, told People Magazine that his Colorado cabin allows him to do “the things that I want to do on a day-to-day basis.”

“What I want to look at, what I want to be a part of — all the things that Colorado has to offer,” he explained. “I wanted to eventually get into the ranching life.”

“When Goldie and I got together, a couple of years later, we both built a ranch there together, where our family has grown up,” Russell continued. “That was 40 years ago.”

Russell went on to say that when he moved to Colorado with Hawn, it wasn’t as common for entertainers to leave California as it is now.

“I wasn’t escaping, I was just living where I live,” he said. “I was fortunate that it really didn’t make any difference. But when I did it, nobody else was doing that. I had many people tell me, ‘Well, that’s goodbye. That’s it.’ I said, ‘Well, we’ll see.'”

Russell then said that he’s noticed many more stars fleeing Los Angeles in recent years.

“I don’t dislike L.A.,” he stated. “It’s just not my preference in terms of how I like to live my life.”

“You’ve got to understand something about the area of Old Snowmass,” Russell added. “Everybody who lives there, they live there because they want to. I can’t say that about L.A.”

Russell And Hawn’s Blended Family

Russell also said that he and Hawn, 80, wanted to share the experience of Colorado with their children. Indeed, the two of them have raised a beautiful blended family.

Hawn shares two children, Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson, with her ex-husband Bill Hudson. Meanwhile, Russell shares son Boston Russell with ex-wife Season Hubley. Hawn and Russell are parents to their son Wyatt, who they welcomed in 1986. All of their children have greatly enjoyed spending time in Colorado with their parents.

“It’s very different from living in a city,” Russell gushed of Colorado life. “They grew up with a good dose of what nature can offer. There are difficulties to it, but there are also great rewards to it. I’m just more comfortable there.”

“It was like the way I grew up in Maine,” he concluded, referring to his own childhood. “I suppose, once you’re exposed to that kind of thing, it’s always home. Everything we did there in terms of what we built and what we have in terms of being able to offer in life for our children, I’m really, really happy that we were able to do that.”

Russell And Hawn’s History

Russell and Hawn first met on the set of their 1968 Disney movie The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band. However, they did not begin dating until they starred together in the 1984 movie Swing Shift. Despite being together for decades, Russell and Hawn have never married.

“We thought that by getting married that was actually going to take something from both of us that we didn’t want,” Hawn told Entertainment Tonight last month. “We want to choose each other every day.”

“I don’t like ownership, you know?” she added. “And I must say that I think Kurt feels the same way. I think that’s one of the areas where we all have to feel free to be who we are, and think the way we do, and for those of us who are, basically, want to have a happy life, I think you want to be happy with yourself.”

Russell and Hawn are two of many stars who have fled the far-left state of California in search of a better life elsewhere. Other celebrities who have done the same include Gary Sinise, Kirk Cameron, Scott Baio, Mark Wahlberg, Sylvester Stallone and many more.

If California leaders want the rich and famous to stay in their state, perhaps they should start rethinking the radically liberal policies that are driving them away.

We can certainly see why Russell and Hawn decided long ago that they needed to leave L.A. and move to Colorado. Here’s hoping that they have many years of love and happiness there to come!
