Over the past few years, Prince Andrew has become a major thorn in the side of the British royal family. Now, Andrew has enraged his older brother King Charles once again, as he’s found himself embroiled in a disturbing “Chinese spy” scandal.
Andrew’s Chinese Spy Scandal
A source told Daily Mail that Charles, 76, is “furious” with Andrew, 64, after the latter was found to have had a staffer who has been accused of being a Chinese spy. This former staffer, who’s only been publicly identified under the moniker H6, has reportedly been banned from entering the U.K. due to the spy allegations.
The BBC described H6 as a 50 year-old “close confidant” of Andrew’s who developed an “unusual degree of trust” with the royal.
H6 became so close to Andrew that he was permitted to visit Buckingham Palace twice. He also entered St. James’s Palace and Windsor Castle. On top of that, the alleged spy was given permission to act on Andrew’s behalf to seek investors in China.
Chinese Spy May Have Targeted Andrew
British officials believe that this accused spy was a member of the Chinese Communist Party. They allege that he secretly worked for the CCP’s United Front Work Department. Police stopped H6 at the British border back in 2021. After searching him, they found that he had a briefing document in his possession. This document stated that Andrew seemed to be in a “desperate situation and will grab onto anything.”
After being banned from the U.K., H6 quickly filed an appeal. During this appeal, judges were told that H6 was trying to leverage Andrew’s influence. The ban was ultimately upheld by the court.
Andrew has claimed to the BBC that he’s “ceased all contact” with H6. He’s also alleged that he met the man “through official channels” and that there was “nothing of a sensitive nature ever discussed.”
Many will undoubtedly find that hard to believe, however.
Buckingham Palace has refused to comment on the ensuing scandal. The Palace has only said that it doesn’t act for Andrew, as he is no longer a working royal. Andrew was forced to step down as a senior royal back in 2019 due to backlash over his alleged ties to the late billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Charles ‘Furious’ With Andrew
Charles is reportedly “furious” with his younger brother for making the royal family “look bad.” Despite this, sources say that Charles won’t “divorce or sack” Andrew because “there will always be a bond of blood.”
This comes after it was shockingly found that the Palace isn’t able to rule out that Andrew is using money from Chinese donors to fund his ongoing stay in the 30-room Royal Lodge in Windsor Park. Despite pressure from Charles to move out into more modest accommodations, Andrew has refused to do so.
“The Palace has behaved the best it possibly can with a difficult relation,” one insider said. “Every sanction that can be imposed has been, but you can’t divorce or sack your brother from being your brother.”
Family is family, so Charles is undoubtedly in a very difficult situation when it comes to dealing with his younger brother. However, it’s starting to seem like it’s always going to be scandal after scandal with Andrew, so something arguably needs to be done.
It will certainly be interesting to see where this goes from here with Andrew and the royal family.
