Earlier this month, we reported that the Oscar-winning star Nicole Kidman and her country music star husband Keith Urban had separated after 19 years of marriage. At the time, insiders were claiming that Kidman was desperately “fighting to save her marriage.” They also alleged that she’d felt “blindsided” by Urban wanting to separate.

Hours later, however, Kidman, 58, officially filed for divorce from Urban, 57. This came amidst rumors that Urban had already moved on with a “new girlfriend.”

Now, Urban is taking what many are interpreting as a dig at his marriage in the season premiere of his new reality television competition show The Road.

Urban’s ‘Soul-Sucking Routine’

In the premiere episode, Urban took the stage to perform his new track “Straight Line.”

“Why we livin’ every day in circles? Just burnin’ out, burnin’ out,” he sings in the song. “I don’t wanna just go through the motions. Goin’ round and round. It’s takin’ us down.”

Fans believe that this song is a subtle nod to Urban’s marriage troubles. Indeed, he previously said that the track is about “breaking free” from “soul-sucking” routines.

“Straight Line is wanting to break out of a soul-sucking routine that you might be stuck in,” Urban wrote on Instagram when the song came out in February of 2024. “Maybe in a relationship, a job, with creativity, with yourself…whatever it is!! It’s a message of feeling alive again and getting out from under that dark cloud.”

Urban Talks Difficulties Of Tour Life

Later in the premiere of The Road, Urban opened up about how difficult it is to be away from loved ones on tour.

“Where do we start?” he said of life on tour. “It’s a calling, and you’re going to do it or you’re not going to make it.”

“When you wake up on a tour bus at 3.30 in the morning and you’re sick as a dog, you’re in the middle of nowhere and you’ve got to play your fifth show later that night, and you haven’t slept, and you miss your friends, and you’re missing your family, and you’re completely lonely and miserable and sick – and you say to yourself, ‘Why am I doing this?'” he confessed. “The only answer can be: Because this is what I’m born to do.”

Urban And Kidman’s History

Urban and Kidman met back in 2005, and they married the next year in 2006. They went on to welcome two daughters together: Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. Sadly, Kidman filed for divorce on September 30, citing “irreconcilable differences” at the time.

This was Urban’s first and only marriage. Meanwhile, Kidman was married to her fellow A-list Hollywood star Tom Cruise from 1990 until 2001. Their divorce was extremely bitter, which may explain why she was particularly so reluctant to split from Urban. Indeed, insiders have claimed that Kidman fought to save her marriage with everything she has.

“She didn’t want this,” a source told People Magazine after Kidman filed. “She has been fighting to save the marriage.”

This has clearly been a very difficult time for both Urban and Kidman. Please join us in saying a prayer for them as they navigate this new chapter of their lives!
