Last year, we reported on rumors that the Oscar-winning Hollywood star Kevin Costner was dating the singer Jewel. This came months after Christine Baumgartner, Costner’s wife of 18 years, blindsided him by filing for divorce. She has since become engaged to a former close friend of Costner’s.
Neither Costner, 70, nor Jewel, 51, ever confirmed that they were an item, and the rumors soon died down. Now, however, insiders are saying that Costner and Jewel did indeed have a fling. These sources are alleging that Costner left Jewel “heartbroken” when he “ghosted” her afterwards, meaning he ceased all contact with her.
Jewel Is ‘Heartbroken’
“She’s heartbroken,” a source close to Jewel told Radar Online. “She thought it was something real – he thought it was something vague.”
The insider went on to say that though Jewel was left devastated by Costner, she doesn’t plan to fight to save their relationship. Instead, she’ll be letting her silence speak for itself.
“She doesn’t chase,” the source explained. “Especially not cowboys with commitment issues.”
Meanwhile, Costner has denied that he ever dated Jewel.
“Jewel and I are friends,” he said while appearing on The Howard Stern Show last year. “We’ve never gone out, ever. She’s fantastic, she’s special, and I don’t want these rumors to ruin our friendship because that’s what we have. She’s special…. She’s everything you might think, but it just hasn’t happened.”

Costner’s ‘Midlife Crisis’
Back in April, Costner was spotted out in Hollywood getting cozy with a much younger mystery brunette. It appeared to onlookers that the pair were on a date.
“It’s clear he’s going through a midlife crisis and is trying to sow as many wild oats as possible,” said an insider close to Costner. “First came the surgery and the vanity treatments, then rumors he was dating Jewel, and now he’s bed-hopping and having his share of booty calls.”
“He’s not interested in settling down,” this source continued. “Besides that, girls seem more interested in the fact that he’s Kevin Costner. It’s rather sad that he’s getting his kicks like this and doesn’t seem able to say no and doesn’t vet these people. These women could be using him.”
Costner’s friends have reportedly become concerned with his behavior as of late.
“It’s a left-field turn because friends remember he was talking about finding love not so long ago – now all he cares about is getting his rocks off,” the insider lamented. “Becoming a shameless bed-hopping bachelor is not a good look for someone his age.
“Friends would like to see him settle down with someone in his own generation, and they think it’s ridiculous he’s frequenting nightclubs where he’s the oldest guy in the room,” the source concluded. “It seems like such a pronounced change from how he led his life for so many years.”

Costner Struggles With Divorce
Costner openly struggled with his split from Baumgartner, 51.
“That’s a crushing moment,” he previously said of her divorce filing. “It’s powerful, and it hurt.”
Costner and Baumgartner finalized their divorce in February of 2024. She has since become engaged to her and Costner’s former neighbor Josh Connor, 50. This was a crushing blow for Costner, as he and Connor had been close friends.
“On one hand, it’s hard to deprive Kevin of a little pleasure,” the source concluded. “His marriage to Christine was dead for years before they split, but the feeling among his friends is that he’s making a spectacle of himself.”
