Kevin Costner could play the country music star’s Reba McEntire’s dead father on her sitcom Happy’s Place. That is, if the cast gets their way!
Happy’s Place Cast Wants Costner To Guest Star
Season two of Happy’s Place premieres on Friday, November 7. In the lead-up to this, the cast sat down with US Weekly to let fans know what they could expect from the second season. They also revealed who their dream guest stars would be, and it didn’t take long for Costner’s name to come up!
“We have a dream of seeing flashbacks to Happy,” Pablo Castelblanco said of Bobbie (McEntire) and Isabella’s (Belissa Escobedo) late father. “Belissa really wants Kevin Costner.”
Their co-star Melissa Peterman was quick to agree that Costner would be the perfect choice for this role.
“I also would love a flashback scene, specifically a flashback of the day showing each and everyone’s job interview,” she said. “That could be really fun. Do we ever really want to see Happy? I would love to.”
Happy’s Place
Happy’s Place was an immediate hit when it premiered in October of last year. The sitcom follows Bobbie (McEntire) as she inherits her father’s restaurant. She soon discovers that she has a new business partner in the long-lost half-sister (Escobedo), who she never knew existed.
Other characters on Happy’s Place include bartender Gabby (Peterman), cook Emmett (Rex Linn), accountant Steve (Castelblanco) and waiter Takoda (Tokala Black Elk).
Aside from Costner, the cast has some other famous names that they’d love to have guest star.
“My dear friend John Lithgow would love to do it. He’s now doing the Harry Potter show on HBO so he’s in London for another year. I’m also trying to get my good friend Jean Smart to come over,” said Linn. “She’s on the studio lot just right across the way here. I’d love to see those two but I have about 30 friends that want to come on the show. We’re trying to get some of them.”
McEntire Weighs In
As for McEntire, she’s just excited for fans to see where Happy’s Place goes this season. Indeed, she loves the way that the show is evolving.
“It is a great place to be,” McEntire gushed. “We know our audience, we know each other better and we’ve gelled. We didn’t have that big of a break between the first season ending and second season beginning so we just fell right back into it.”
“We’re bonding a lot more,” she continued. “All six of us are very confident and very comfortable with each other — to a point that when we do have a guest cast, we feel very comfortable sharing the stage.”
McEntire concluded by saying that the stories told in the second season of Happy’s Place are even bigger and better.
“We’ve progressed and we’ve grown together,” McEntire stated. “We’re a tight knit family — although [Belissa and I] are the only ones that are blood related on the show. But it feels like we’re kids that have been adopted into one big family called Happy’s Place.”
Happy’s Place airs on NBC on Friday nights at 8pm. Be sure to tune in to see if Costner ends up making a guest appearance!
