Kelsey Grammer has been one of the most famous stars in Hollywood for decades. Despite this, he has never been a fan of Los Angeles.
In a new interview, Grammer is recalling the exact moment that he knew life in L.A. wasn’t for him.
“The minute I got here,” Grammer, 70, told Fox News with a laugh.
Grammer’s Feelings About LA
Grammer was born in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and he was raised in New Jersey. Because of his job as an actor, Grammer has had to live in L.A. since the 1980s. Over the past forty years, he’s developed a love-hate relationship with the city of angels.
“But I’ve been here for 40 years,” he explained. “Like it’s an unlikely sort of love affair I have with this town. I’m not crazy about it.”
“But I also love it,” Grammer admitted. “So I’m doing my best to kind of lift my heart to take each day as the gift it is. So what, LA’s a little challenging. Well, it’s like we got nincompoops running things. It’s life, it’s the way it is.”
“And I’m hoping that we find our corner in Los Angeles so we can keep our little garden, you know, growing and pristine,” he concluded. “And we certainly have a family that sort of reflects that. I’m happy.”
Grammer Talks LA Politics
Grammer has long been open about his criticisms of the politics in Los Angeles. After the devastating wildfires back in January, Grammer claimed that he was seeing a shift in the politics in L.A. due to what many feel was the mismanagement of that tragedy.
“I’ve always been a little bit on the more conservative side of things politically around here, so that shift seems to be unfolding because of…I guess you’d call it malfeasance in office,” Grammer stated. “I mean, I don’t really know what else to say, but somebody took their eye off the ball, and there’s probably going to be some accountability for that. But you never know in California.”
Grammer went on to say that he had “a house full of refugees” from the wildfires, which began in the Pacific Palisades.
“I am devastated by the loss, the human loss, the loss of life,” the former Cheers star lamented. “When you lose everything you have, and that’s happened to me a couple of times in my lifetime, it’s just [like], OK, that’s [when] you pick up, and you figure out what’s going to happen next, one foot in front of the other. That’s how it has to be.”
Grammer Is Eager To Help
Grammer then said that there were “a lot of people around who want to support” those affected by the wildfires.
“For many, they’re going to want to find a new way to live, a new way forward, a new place to live,” he concluded. “But I know a lot of people want to stay, and I wish them well with it. And I’m certainly going to do everything I can to help.”
Over the past few years, celebrities have been fleeing California in droves to escape the radically liberal policies in the state. These stars include Patricia Heaton, Scott Baio, and Sylvester Stallone. Only time will tell if Grammer ever joins them in escaping Los Angeles.
God bless you, Kelsey Grammer!
