Back in March, we reported that the original American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson was mysteriously absent from her eponymous talk show for an extended period of time. No specific reason was ever given for her absence. Instead, Clarkson’s reps only said that she was dealing with a “personal matter.”

Now, Clarkson has been hit with some very bad career news. Indeed, after decades of enjoying success with her fans, this is something that Clarkson is not used to.

Clarkson Hit With Crushing Blow

Clarkson, 43, is currently preparing for a residency in Las Vegas, Nevada this summer. Unfortunately for her, she’s struggling to sell tickets.

Daily Mail has confirmed that at the time of this writing, Clarkson has only sold 70 percent of the tickets for her July 4 opening-night performance at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Making matters even worse, for the next night’s performance and all subsequent, there are at least as many or even more tickets still available.

Only a small number of the seats that are still available on Ticketmaster are resale. This suggests that the vast majority of them have never been purchased. Needless to say, this is extremely humiliating for Clarkson, who was undoubtedly expecting to sell out at least some of these shows by now.

Clarkson’s Vegas Residency

Clarkson’s residency is supposed to kick off on July 14. There will be 18 shows that are set to run through November 15. It remains to be seen if Clarkson’s struggles to sell tickets will impact how many shows she actually ends up performing.

Before her Vegas residency, Clarkson will be performing at the Hard Rock Live at Etes Arena in Atlantic City, New Jersey. While she’s managed to sell more of these tickets than she has in Vegas, there are still a significant number of tickets available for these shows as well.

Clarkson has been desperately trying to increase interest in her tour as of late. She’s been doing so by saying that she’ll be featuring a larger band in order to flesh out her performances.

“I’m excited! This one is different,” she claimed after performing live on the TODAY show on Tuesday morning. “I hired more musicians and more singers to cover everything to where there’s no band tracks.”

“It’s all organic, it’s all live…” Clarkson added. “I really wanted to make the experience as if you’re in the studio with us. So we’ve worked really hard on the sound.”

Clarkson Misses Episodes Of Her Talk Show

This comes after Clarkson missed a series of episodes of The Kelly Clarkson Show in March. Instead, various guests had to fill in for her, sometimes at the last minute. No official reason was ever given for her absences.

At the time, Clarkson’s rep told TMZ that the original American Idol winner “is completely fine. She’s been dealing with a personal matter that does not directly involve her.”

Last month, multiple sources claimed to Page Six that Clarkson wants to leave her talk show when her contract expires next year. Her alleged reasoning for this is that she wants to spend more time with her daughter River Rose, 10, and son Remy, 8. Clarkson also reportedly wants to move out of New York City, where her talk show is filmed.

“Kelly’s number one priority is her children, and they always will be,” one industry insider alleged of Clarkson, who is from Texas. “The show is grueling. It’s a whole lot of work, and I hear that Kelly would like to spend more time down South.”

Given the success of her talk show, NBC is reportedly desperate to keep Clarkson happy and keep the program going. Clarkson was reportedly paid in the range of $10 million per season during her time as a coach on The Voice. It’s believed that she makes even more than that for her talk show.

Perhaps Clarkson’s struggles with ticket sales will have her rethinking leaving her talk show. Only time will tell if Clarkson is able to bounce back from this and sell some tickets!
