Kelly Clarkson shocked her fans on Wednesday when she postponed her upcoming Las Vegas residency concerts. These shows were scheduled to run through the rest of August. Sadly, she did this for a truly heartbreaking reason that has her fans praying for her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.
Clarkson Postpones Vegas Shows
“Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas,” Clarkson, 43, wrote on social media.
“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” she continued. “I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.”
Clarkson’s ‘Extraordinarily Hard’ Divorce
Clarkson and Blackstock were married from 2013 until they divorced in 2020. They share two children together: daughter River, 11, and son Remington, nine.
In January of last year, Clarkson told People Magazine that divorce is “extraordinarily hard.”
“You feel alone, and it’s just a blessing to be able to have that outlet for those emotions that are overwhelming,” she added at the time.
Back in March, Clarkson made some rare public comments about Blackstock while appearing on Kylie Kelce’s Not Gonna Lie podcast. There, Clarkson talked about the double standard that she’s noticed when it comes to how working moms are treated compared to working dads.
“It’s funny though how different it is because even from a young age, like we didn’t teach them [that],” she told Kelce. “Just innately, you’re like, ‘He’s allowed to be somewhere, but you’re not.’ Like, that is real interesting.”
“There’s a lot that I keep in because…co-parenting is fun,” Clarkson teased. “It’s like, ‘Oh, he couldn’t come because this,’ and I’m like, ‘Okay, cool.’ Do you think I just leave and just sit in the park all day?”

Clarkson And Blackstock’s Legal Battles
Clarkson and Blackstock began dating in 2012, and they married the next year. He was both her husband and her manager during their time together.
Clarkson filed for divorce in June of 2020 on the grounds of irreconcilable differences. A messy divorce quickly ensued, with the former couple engaging in years of legal wrangling related to their finances.
The divorce was later finalized in March of 2022. However, it wasn’t until the next year that Clarkson won a $2.6 million judgment against Blackstock. She had claimed that he “owed her millions in commissions that he should not have been able to collect for deals that he set up that should have been handled by a talent agent, rather than her manager,” according to Daily Mail.
The California Labor Commissioner ultimately agreed with Clarkson, ruling in her favor. Indeed, they concluded that Blackstock had overstepped by working around Clarkson’s agents at Creative Artists Agency. In May of last year, Clarkson and Blackstock finally reached a settlement in the original American Idol winner’s lawsuit over the commission fees.

Clarkson Misses Talk Show Episodes
Earlier this year, Clarkson sparked concerns from fans when she inexplicably missed ten episodes of her eponymous talk show. Clarkson never revealed exactly why this happened, only saying that she was absent for “personal reasons.” However, insiders were quick to say that it was actually Blackstock’s mysterious illness that led to her absences.
“Her ex-husband is sick and she took the kids to see him,” a source told News Nation in April.
Though their divorce took a nasty turn, the insider pointed out that “he is still the children’s father.”
