The pop star Katy Perry traveled to space and returned to Earth just minutes later on Monday morning. As soon as she touched down, Perry paused to kiss the ground as she showed gratitude for her safe flight.
Perry Travels To Space – Returns To Earth
Perry, 40, was one of six women to travel to space today on the Blue Origin flight. She was joined by CBS Mornings host Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen and Jeff Bezos’ fiancée, Lauren Sánchez.
The flight took off from Blue Origin’s Launch Site One in West Texas at 9:30 a.m. It lasted for eleven minutes and traveled 65 miles above Earth’s surface.
There was only limited audio from within the rocket. However, Perry and the other women could still be heard screaming in excitement as they caught sight of the moon up close. They were also heard excitedly screaming when the rocket touched back down on Earth at 9:41am.
As she exited the capsule, Perry held up a flower in honor of her 4 year-old daughter Daisy Dove, who she shares with the actor Orlando Bloom. Daisy was in attendance to watch the launch. As she walked out of the rocket, Perry stopped to kiss the ground to celebrate the success of her mission.

Perry Makes History
Perry and the other women on this mission made history as the first all-female spaceflight since Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova’s solo trip to space in 1963. This was also the 11th human flight for Blue Origin’s New Shepard program.
Perry made it clear just how excited she was to go to space as soon as this mission was announced back in February.
“If you had told me that I would be part of the first-ever all-female crew in space, I would have believed you ♥️😉,” Perry wrote on Instagram on February 27. “Nothing was beyond my imagination as a child. Although we didn’t grow up with much, I never stopped looking at the world with hopeful WONDER! I work hard to live my life that way still, and I am motivated more than ever to be an example for my daughter that women should take up space (pun intended).”
Perry went on to say that she feels “honored” to use the spaceflight to “show all of the youngest & most vulnerable among us to reach for the stars, literally and figuratively.”

Perry Discusses The Mission
Last week, Perry discussed the mission in an interview with Elle.
“Space is going to finally be glam,” she said. “Let me tell you something. If I could take glam up with me, I would do that. We are going to put the ‘ass’ in astronaut.”
Perry then revealed that traveling to space has been her lifelong dream.
“I have wanted to go to space for almost 20 years,” Perry said. “I was investigating all of the possible commercial options. Even when Blue Origin was first talking about commercial travel to space, I was like, ‘Sign me up! I’m first in line.’ And then they called me, and I was like, ‘Really? I get an invite?’”
“And then they told me about it being the first all-female crew,” she continued. “I take pause in those moments and ask the universe to give me confirmations. And I really felt very sure when they sent me the picture of the space pod, because on the front of the pod is a feather, and that’s my mom’s nickname for me. And so I was like, ‘OK, I see it.’”
We’re so glad that this mission was a success, and we can’t wait to hear from Perry herself about what it was truly like to be in space!
