It’s been one month since the pop star Katy Perry went to space. She did so for eleven minutes as part of Jeff Bezos’ all-female Blue Origin crew. Unfortunately for Perry, this has since blown up in her face. Indeed, the mission has been met with tons of backlash.

Now, things have gotten even worse for Perry, as she’s been hit with a truly crushing career blow.

Perry Hit With Humiliating Blow

Perry, 40, has not been invited back to her Las Vegas residency in the wake of her Blue Origin backlash. Indeed, a source told NewsNation that Perry is not welcome back to Resorts World Las Vegas. This came after the hotel slammed her residency as a “disaster” that only cost them money.

“The residency was a disaster for Resorts World, a complete failure,” the insider said.

Perry began her PLAY residency at the Las Vegas hotel on December 29, 2021. She then had short stints there throughout 2022 and 2023. Perry gushed over the show, describing it as being “larger than life.” She also said that it was “the kookiest, most camp show I’ve ever put together.”

Perry’s Las Vegas residency reportedly consisted of 19 of her biggest hits. These included “E.T.,” “Dark Horse,” “California Gurls,” “Waking Up in Vegas,” “I Kissed a Girl,” “Never Really Over,” “Teenage Dream,” “Roar” and “Firework.”

Resorts World, however, now claims to have lost money from Perry’s lavish show.

“There was a bidding war between Resorts World and Caesars … and Caesars technically lost out — but in the end, Caesars won,” the source explained. “Katy was getting paid between $750,000 and $900,000 a show because of the bidding war and the entire run she underperformed and Resorts World lost money.”

Perry’s Blue Origin Backlash

This comes at a difficult time for Perry, as backlash has been pouring in over her Blue Origin space flight for over a month. Perry travelled to space on the Blue Origin flight on April 14. She was joined by CBS Mornings host Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen and Bezos’ fiancée, Lauren Sánchez.

All of the women have been hit with backlash over the flight. However, Perry has taken the most heat by far. According to Daily Mail, Perry’s career has been “ruined” by this controversy.

Last month, Perry herself took to social media to address the hate that she’s been receiving.

“When the ‘online’ world tries to make me a human Piñata, I take it with grace and send them love, cause I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed,” she stated. “What’s real is seeing your faces every night, singing in unison, reading your notes, feeling your warmth. I find people to lock eyes and sing with and I know we are healing each other in a small way when I get to do that.”

“I’m not perfect, and I actually have omitted that word from my vocabulary, I’m on a human journey playing the game of life with an audience of many and sometimes I fall but… I get back up and go on and continue to play the game and somehow through my battered and bruised adventure I keep looking to the light and in that light a new level UNLOCKS,” Perry concluded.

PR Expert Weighs In

Public relations expert Eric Schiffer has spoken out to warn that Perry is on the brink of “career extinction.”

“Katy Perry’s reputation is vibe surfing the toilet drain faster than Blue Origin re-entered the atmosphere,” Schiffer told The Mail last month. “Katy’s entering an area beyond career crisis into career extinction with a brand now synonymous with faux-feminist failure.”

“Katy went to space, but she still couldn’t find her lost fanbase. Even her backup dancers may be distancing themselves,” he continued. “She went to space for perspective, but Katy may soon need a telescope to see her career from here.”

Schiffer believes that the only way that Perry can save herself is to take a career hiatus. He thinks that she must leave the public eye for some period of time.

“She’s become the poster child for why some celebrities should disappear. Katy Perry should vanish from the public eye before she becomes a full-time meme,” he explained. “Katy’s an out-of-touch celebrity elite and magnet for making boneheaded moves in a desperate bid for relevance.”

Perry didn’t take Schiffer’s advice, however. Instead, she began her international Lifetimes tour days after her Blue Origin flight. The tour is set to run through December, and Perry has dates all over the world.

Perry’s latest humiliation regarding her Las Vegas residency certainly doesn’t bode well for the future of her career. Only time will tell if she will ever recover from this controversy!
