It’s been two and a half weeks since the pop star Katy Perry went to space for eleven minutes as part of Jeff Bezos’ all-female Blue Origin crew. Unfortunately for Perry, this has since blown up in her face. Indeed, the mission has been met with tons of backlash.
Now, Perry is speaking out to admit that she feels “battered and bruised” by all of this backlash.
Perry Sounds Off
Perry, 40, took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a fan tribute that was displayed for her in New York City’s Times Square. She shared this alongside a lengthy caption in which she confessed to feeling like “a human piñata” amidst all of the hate she’s received for her Blue Origin flight.
“I’m so grateful for you guys,” Perry wrote to her fans. “We’re in this beautiful and wild journey together. I can continue to remain true to myself, heart open and honest especially because of our bond. I love you guys and have grown up together with you and am so excited to see you all over the world this year!”
“Please know I am ok, I have done a lot work around knowing who I am, what is real and what is important to me,” she continued. “My therapist said something years ago that has been a game changer, ‘no one can make you believe something about yourself that you don’t already believe about yourself,’ and if I ever do have any feelings about it then it’s an opportunity to investigate the feeling underneath it.”
Perry Doubles Down
Perry went on to directly address the backlash that she’s received as of late.
“When the ‘online’ world tries to make me a human Piñata, I take it with grace and send them love, cause I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed,” she stated. “What’s real is seeing your faces every night, singing in unison, reading your notes, feeling your warmth. I find people to lock eyes and sing with and I know we are healing each other in a small way when I get to do that.”
“I’m not perfect, and I actually have omitted that word from my vocabulary, I’m on a human journey playing the game of life with an audience of many and sometimes I fall but… I get back up and go on and continue to play the game and somehow through my battered and bruised adventure I keep looking to the light and in that light a new level UNLOCKS,” Perry concluded.

Perry’s Blue Origin Backlash
Perry travelled to space on the Blue Origin flight on April 14. She was joined by CBS Mornings host Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen and Bezos’ fiancée, Lauren Sánchez.
All of the women have been hit with backlash over the flight. However, Perry has taken the most heat by far. According to Daily Mail, Perry’s career has been “ruined” by this controversy. Public relations expert Eric Schiffer spoke out to say that Perry is on the brink of “career extinction.”
“Katy Perry’s reputation is vibe surfing the toilet drain faster than Blue Origin re-entered the atmosphere,” Schiffer told The Mail last week. “Katy’s entering an area beyond career crisis into career extinction with a brand now synonymous with faux-feminist failure.”
“Katy went to space, but she still couldn’t find her lost fanbase. Even her backup dancers may be distancing themselves,” he continued. “She went to space for perspective, but Katy may soon need a telescope to see her career from here.”

How Perry Can Save Herself
Schiffer believes that the only way that Perry can save herself is to take a career hiatus. He thinks that she must leave the public eye for some period of time.
“She’s become the poster child for why some celebrities should disappear. Katy Perry should vanish from the public eye before she becomes a full-time meme,” he explained. “Katy’s an out-of-touch celebrity elite and magnet for making boneheaded moves in a desperate bid for relevance.”
It’s unlikely that Perry will be disappearing anytime soon, however. She just launched her Lifetimes tour in Mexico City last week. The international tour has dates that run through December. Perry has given no indication that she has any plans to cancel this tour.
In the end, we can certainly see why Perry feels “battered and bruised” at the moment. Indeed, she’s become the joke of the internet in the wake of her Blue Origin space flight. Only time will tell if Perry’s career can ever recover from this!
