It’s been two weeks since the pop star Katy Perry went to space for eleven minutes as part of Jeff Bezos’ all-female Blue Origin crew. Unfortunately for Perry, this has since blown up in her face, as the mission has been met with tons of backlash.
In an attempt to get some of the heat off of her, Perry tried to lighten the mood by wearing a spacesuit as she kicked off her Lifetimes tour in Mexico City last week. It didn’t take long for this to backfire on her big time.
Perry Wears Spacesuit At Concert – It Immediately Backfires
Last Wednesday night, Perry launched her first tour in seven years. During the concert, Perry, 40, revealed a galactic spacesuit that was complete with thigh-high boots and a heart cut-out along her chest.

Much like her Blue Origin space flight, however, this backfired on Perry immediately. Indeed, social media users were quick to slam her spacesuit as they continued to torch her Blue Origin flight.
“Can you please go back to space… and just stay there?” one social media user asked Perry. Another user wrote, “Is this the astronaut version?”
“Is this what happens after you go to space and back,” a third user commented. A fourth wrote, “Katy Perry and other ‘divas’ put on their skin-tight blue suits, applied their heavy makeup, fluffed up their hair, painted their lips, and then they went on a very expensive joy ride.”
“Cringe. Desperate. Narcissistic. But still yesterday,” someone else stated. Yet another user added, “This made me less into ‘space’ and ‘science.’”
Perry Fires Back At Her Haters
During her Mexico City concert, Perry tried to address the Blue Origin backlash.
“Has anyone ever called your dreams crazy?” Perry asked the crowd, seemingly referring to the space launch.
Later in the concert, Perry spotted two men in the audience who were wearing NASA-branded suits.
“I want these gentlemen to come on stage because they are dressed like my most current timeline,” she joked.
Perry proceeded to actually bring the two men onstage. Check out that uncomfortable moment for yourself in the video below.

Perry’s Blue Origin Space Flight
Perry travelled to space on the Blue Origin flight on April 14. She was joined by CBS Mornings host Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen and Bezos’ fiancée, Lauren Sánchez.
While all of the women have been hit with backlash over the flight, Perry has taken the most heat by far. Though Perry’s Lifetimes Tour is set to run through December, the renowned public relations expert Eric Schiffer is advising her to take a hiatus from the public eye if she wants to avoid “career extinction.”
“Katy Perry’s reputation is vibe surfing the toilet drain faster than Blue Origin re-entered the atmosphere,” Schiffer told Daily Mail last week. “Katy’s entering an area beyond career crisis into career extinction with a brand now synonymous with faux-feminist failure.”
“Katy went to space, but she still couldn’t find her lost fanbase. Even her backup dancers may be distancing themselves,” he continued. “She went to space for perspective, but Katy may soon need a telescope to see her career from here.”
Schiffer’s Advice For Perry
Schiffer firmly believes that the only way that Perry can save herself is to take a break.
“She’s become the poster child for why some celebrities should disappear. Katy Perry should vanish from the public eye before she becomes a full-time meme,” he explained. “Katy’s an out-of-touch celebrity elite and magnet for making boneheaded moves in a desperate bid for relevance.”
Judging by Perry wearing a spacesuit during her concerts, however, it appears that she has no intention of taking Schiffer’s advice. Instead, she seems to want to lean into this scandal by continuing to associate herself with space. Only time will tell if this actually works out for Perry!
