Kathy Griffin, 64, Reveals She Underwent A Full Hysterectomy

The comedian Kathy Griffin shocked her fans on Monday when she revealed that she underwent a hysterectomy last week.

“Happy Monday!” Griffin, 64, wrote on Instagram. “I had a hysterectomy on Friday, that’s right they took out the uterus, the fallopian tubes & the ovaries. Pre-cancerous, blah blah blah.”

“Not to be an [expletive], but how do I NOT have a reality show to capture all of this?” she added in the post’s caption. “I mean, you can’t write it. It’s too real.”

Griffin’s Health Issues

This is far from the first health scare that Griffin has suffered in recent years. Back in 2o21, she revealed that she had been diagnosed with Stage 1 lung cancer. She said at the time that she’d had “half of my left lung removed” as part of her treatment.

“I’ve got to tell you guys something. I have cancer. I’m about to go into surgery to have half of my left lung removed,” Griffin wrote on social media at the time. “Yes, I have lung cancer even though I’ve never smoked!”

“The doctors are very optimistic as it is stage one and contained to my left lung,” she continued. “Hopefully no chemo or radiation after this and I should have normal function with my breathing. I should be up and running around as usual in a month or less. It’s been a helluva 4 years, trying to get back to work, making you guys laugh and entertaining you, but I’m gonna be just fine.”

That November, Griffin revealed that she was officially cancer-free.

“I had surgery, you’re not going to believe this — so, I’ve never smoked but I got lung cancer,” she told the late night television host Jimmy Kimmel. “In August, I had half of my left lung removed. I’m not even kidding.”

“So now I’m like Minnie Mouse meets Marilyn Monroe,” she added with a laugh. “It will heal, but I’m sort of enjoying it. I’m a good two octaves higher, I think. It’s higher than Mariah Carey, I know that.”

Griffin Stays Positive

Despite these setbacks, Griffin has maintained her sense of humor. Last week, she told Us Weekly that she enjoys playing pranks on her friend Sharon Stone of Basic Instinct fame.

“I’m friends with Sharon Stone and one of the things I do to torture her is adding her to random text chains with people she doesn’t know,” Griffin said.

“I have her on four text chains now, and she keeps side-texting me and says, ‘I’m going to f—ing kill you. Stop adding my phone number to people I’m never going to meet,'” she added.

Griffin went on to talk about her bond with the singer Sia.

“Sia and I have a deal: She calls me if she’s in a funk and I do stand up for her on the phone, and then I call her when I’m in a funk and she’ll sing,” she explained. “Sometimes I’m in the mood for ‘Titanium,’ sometimes I’m in the mood for ‘Reasonable Woman.’”

This has certainly been a difficult few years for Griffin. While we may not agree with Griffin on much politically, we can certainly still say a prayer for her good health moving forward!
