Fans are praying for Kathie Lee Gifford after the 70 year-old former Today show host was rushed to the hospital with a fractured pelvis.
Ironically, Gifford was at the time recovering from hip replacement surgery.
Gifford Broke Her Pelvis
Gifford reportedly broke her pelvis in two places in a fall that she suffered as she recovered from hip surgery. The fall was so serious that Gifford had to be hospitalized for over a week.
Gifford explained what happened to People Magazine, saying that she had “moved 300 books by myself” during book signings in Nashville, Tennessee.
“I weakened my body,” she admitted. “It’s my own fault.”
When one of her friends came to pick her up the next day, Gifford hurried to the door and “just tripped.”
“It didn’t take much, because I was weak in that spot,” Gifford said. “And the next thing you know, I am back in the hospital with a fractured pelvis, the front and the back. That’s more painful than anything I went through with the hip. The pelvis is unbelievably painful. But anyway, here I am.”
‘Humbling Experience’
Gifford went on to describe this as a “humbling experience.” Afterwards, she chose to stay in the hospital for a week because “I don’t trust myself.”
“You think you know your body and the next thing you know, your body changes when you get older,” Gifford continued. “And as much as I don’t wanna think about it, I am.”
Gifford had previously described her hip replacement surgery as “one of the most painful situations of my entire life.”
Gifford had to get this surgery because she has such an active lifestyle. Her surgeon reportedly told her, “You climbed mountains, you made movies, you got on stages. You never took off your high heels, and you kept going and that’s why you’re going through what you’re going through.”
Despite having to get this surgery, Gifford has no regrets about being so active all her life.
“[I ask myself] would I change that? No, I was doing what God put me on this earth to do,” she said at the time. “Every year of it, I was doing what He called me to do.”

Gifford’s Devout Christian Faith
Gifford hasn’t let these physical issues hold her back as of late. On July 16, she released her new historical nonfiction book Herod and Mary: The True Story of the Tyrant King and the Mother of the Risen Savior.
The fact that this is a Christian book should come as no surprise to Gifford’s fans. Indeed, she has been one of the few openly devout Christians working in entertainment for decades. During this difficult time in her life, Gifford is continuing to lean on her faith, just as she always has.
“I don’t know how much time the Lord has me still on this earth, but for whatever time it is I pray that I would be useful… that I would be kind and helpful, and loving to people,” she concluded. “I am a strong woman, but I’m a woman who for 60 years has been trying to do godly work, trying to do the right thing, trying to love people, [and] trying to represent the kingdom of God.”
God bless Kathie Lee Gifford. Please join us in saying a prayer for her as she continues her recovery!
