Last month, we reported that Kathie Lee Gifford had been rushed to the hospital after fracturing her pelvis at age 70. To make matters worse, she had just finished hip replacement surgery when the accident occurred.
Now, Gifford is giving fans an update on how she is doing.
Gifford Updates Fans On Her Health
Gifford held back tears as she described the situation on the TODAY show Tuesday morning. On the show, she opened up about her “miracle” recovery. She told her former co-host Hoda Kotb that she feels blessed that it was so “speedy.”
Gifford was rushed to the hospital at the end of July just weeks after undergoing a hip replacement. Before this surgery, she had been in “horrible pain” for over two years. After the procedure, she was doing “really, really well” and was in physical therapy.
Then she had her accident.
“I was running down the stairs here at my home in Tennessee because my friend was locked out of my back door and it was 100 degrees outside and I live in a four-story brownstone,” she recalled. “So I just went too fast, in stupid shoes, and I went tumbling.”
This left Gifford with a “cracked pelvis in the front and the back.” After spending a week in the hospital, Gifford found herself at home “walking around on a walker.” Much to her surprise, she soon realized that she “wasn’t in any pain at all.”

Gifford’s ‘Miracle’ Recovery
“I was off painkillers, I was off all that stuff and I called my doctor and I said, ‘Shouldn’t I be in a lot of pain?'” she continued. “And he goes, ‘Yes you should, it’s not even been two weeks.’ So he said, ‘Come in, I’ll give you another X-ray.'”
“I went in, and this was just last Thursday, and I know that hundreds of thousands of people have been praying for me because I’ve heard from them… and, you guys, I’m telling you right now, he comes in with my X-ray and he goes, ‘Look at this Kathy,'” Gifford recounted. “He said, ‘Do you wanna see your X-ray?'”
“And I go, ‘That’s my X-ray?’ [and] he goes, ‘Yeah, you’re completely healed, you are cured,'” she stated. “And he’s an incredible man of God but he doesn’t see that very often. He said, ‘You are healed, it is a miracle and now you can have one glass of wine if you want!'”
Kotb and her co-hosts could not help but burst out laughing at this. Clearly, Gifford has maintained her hilarious sense of humor!
‘God Hears Your Prayers’
“Anyway, I have been in no pain now and when that happens to you, you have to give credit and glory… credit to all the prayers, and when I think about the people that have reached out to me and said, “Kathie, have a speedy recovery, we’re praying for a speedy recovery,” that’s about as speedy as you get!'” Gifford said.
“So, if people are out there looking for hope, waiting for their miracles, keep waiting guys, God hears your prayers and he knows what you’re going through,” a visibly emotional Gifford concluded. “I’m deeply grateful and I’m still praying for all the friends and loved ones in my life that have not received their healing yet.”

Gifford has long been known as one of the only openly devout Christians in the entertainment world. She’s undoubtedly been leaning on her faith to get her through this ordeal. Given how quickly she’s recovered, it’s safe to say that this paid off in a big way.
