Earlier this week, Kate Middleton shocked everyone when she abruptly pulled out of a planned appearance at the Royal Ascot. Instead, her husband Prince William attended this event without her on Wednesday. Now, Kate has broken her silence for the first time since unexpectedly pulling out of this royal event.

Kate ‘Disappointed’ To Miss Royal Ascot Event

No specific reason was given for Kate backing out attending the Royal Ascot. Buckingham Palace would only say that Kate was “disappointed” to miss the event.

This led to some fears for Kate’s health, as she spent much of last year battling an unspecified form of cancer.

Though Kate revealed at the end of last year that she’s “cancer-free,” many have feared the potential of the cancer returning.

Kate Breaks Her Silence

Kate, 43, spoke out on Friday to issue a heartfelt message to the world to mark Children’s Hospice Week. This is something that is close to Kate’s heart. Indeed, she is the Royal Patron to two children’s hospices: East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) and Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice in South Wales.

In her message, Kate praised the efforts of staff and medical professionals for tirelessly “lifting spirits through laughter, fun and play” for these children. She also heralded the “life-changing work” of the United Kingdom’s children’s hospices for supporting children and families “through life, death and beyond.”

“No parent expects to hear that their child has a serious health condition that could shorten their life,” Kate wrote. “Sadly, this is the reality faced by thousands of families across the country, leaving them heartbroken, fearful of the future and often desperately isolated.”

“Being able to access the support of one of the UK’s 54 children’s hospices means they don’t have to face that future alone,” she continued. “As Patron of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices and Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice in South Wales, I have the immense privilege of seeing for myself the extraordinary work of our children’s hospices.”

“Lifting spirits through laughter, fun and play, as well as listening, holding, caring and sharing, they support children and families through life, death and beyond,” Kate concluded. “This Children’s Hospices Week, I hope you all will join me in celebrating the life-changing work they do and thanking them for the vital care they provide to children and families experiencing the most challenging times.”

Kate Misses Royal Ascot Event

This came after Kate shocked everyone by backing out of the Royal Ascot event at the last minute. Instead, William attended with his father King Charles and stepmother Queen Camilla. Kate’s mother Carole Middleton was in attendance as well. This only led to more questions as to why Kate would back out.

Those close to Kate have stayed quiet about this absence, as they do not want to fuel speculation about her health. However, one friend of Kate’s indicated that her cancer recovery might be the reason she missed this event.

“Catherine knows she should not overdo things,” this insider told Daily Mail. “She is grateful that her recovery has gone well, but things have not been plain sailing.”

“She had a busy day at Trooping the Colour at the weekend and, if she’s feeling slightly under the weather, it’s better that she takes it easy,” the friend concluded.

Kate has never revealed the specific type of cancer that she was suffering from. That’s why the public has no idea what the chances are of it returning. All we can do is hope and pray that Kate’s cancer is still in remission. In the end, Kate’s health comes first. If she needed a rest on Wednesday, that’s perfectly alright!

God bless you, Kate Middleton!
