John Goodman is speaking out this week to reveal when he last spoke to his former Roseanne c0-star Roseanne Barr.

Goodman Discusses Barr

Goodman, 73, and Barr, 72, played husband and wife on the sitcom Roseanne from 1988 until 1997. They then returned when the show was briefly rebooted in 2018. Sadly, ABC canceled the reboot that same year after Barr posted a tweet that many found to be racist.

ABC immediately axed the sitcom, only to quickly revive it as the new show The Conners. The entire cast, including Goodman, returned for this show, with only Barr not being brought back for it. Instead, ABC brutally killed off her beloved character, much to Barr’s dismay. The Conners ran for seven years, with its final episode ending in April.

On Friday, Goodman admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that he hasn’t spoken to Barr “for about seven or eight years.” This indicates that he hasn’t talked to her since the cancelation of Roseanne.

“I’d rather doubt if she wants to talk to me,” Goodman said of Barr.

Despite this, Goodman still has fond memories of his time working with Barr. Indeed, their chemistry onscreen was nothing short of electric.

“We hit it off from jump street. She made me laugh, and I made her laugh, and wow, it was so much fun,” he recalled. “We’d get so many viewers for the show back then — 20, 30 million people. Things are so different now, but it was a special time.”

Goodman Defends Barr

When Barr was fired in 2018, Goodman was one of the only Roseanne cast members to speak up for her publicly. In 2o23, Goodman told Variety that he has “no” regrets about doing this.

“At the time I remember going to some kind of junket where they saw the pilot, and then the interviews, and it just turned into attack. And that made me very uncomfortable with them just attacking Roseanne,” he recounted. “I felt bad for her.”

“I just feel terrible about the whole thing,” Goodman continued. “We had a great time. And I love her. She’s just her own person.”

Later that same year, Goodman doubled down on this.

“I was surprised at the response,” he said. “And that’s probably all I should say about that … I know for a fact that she’s not a racist.”

Goodman concluded by saying that Barr was “going through hell.”

Goodman Gets Thanked By Barr

Barr responded to this publicly by thanking Goodman “for speaking truth about me, despite facing certain peril from producers and network.”

Barr has been open about just how hurt she was by the way ABC treated her.

“I felt very pissed off that they stole my rights and killed me,” Barr said in her new documentary Roseanne Barr Is America. “It was so stupid and shortsighted, and I don’t know how they answer to their shareholders for canceling me before even one sponsor pulled out.”

Goodman and Barr brought joy to millions of people during their time on Roseanne. Perhaps now that The Conners has ended, they can put all of this behind them and finally reunite in real life. Only time will tell if they ever actually do that!
