Earlier this week, the country music star Jelly Roll won three Grammy Awards. This included one for best contemporary country album. Now, Jelly Roll is calling for a “country” Super Bowl duet between himself and the legendary Dolly Parton.

Jelly Roll Pushes ‘Country’ Super Bowl Halftime Show

Super Bowl 60 is set to take place on Sunday. The Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny is controversially set to perform the halftime show.

In the wake of backlash over this, Jelly Roll is thinking that a country music-themed halftime show is in order next year.

“I’ve been waiting on somebody to ask me a halftime performance question,” Jelly Roll, 41, said in a new interview.

“The Super Bowl could possibly come to Nashville in the next three to five years,” he continued. “We’re getting a new stadium, and I have a dream they do a country music-themed halftime show. Maybe they just let me do a little 20 or 30 seconds in it.”

Jelly Roll has no intention of performing this halftime show alone. In fact, he has some big names in mind when it comes to who would join him for it, including Parton herself.

“Tim McGraw. Garth Brooks. Reba McEntire. Dolly Parton. Kenny Chesney,” he said. “Some of the new dogs like Morgan Wallen and Hardy. Megan Moroney. Lainey Wilson.”

“I’d love to see a halftime show that involves the whole world of country,” Jelly Roll added. “And maybe they’ll let me come out and do a little 20 or 30-second thing in it.”

How cool would that be?!

Bad Bunny Controversy

This comes amidst outrage over Bad Bunny being named as this year’s Super Bowl halftime performer. Indeed, the 31 year-old sings almost exclusively in Spanish. Bad Bunny also recently made a point of leaving American cities off his tour list.

During the Grammy Awards on Sunday, Bad Bunny used his acceptance speech after winning album of the year to bash Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“Before I say thanks to god, I’m going to say, ICE Out,” Bad Bunny said. “We are not savage, we are not animals. We are not aliens, we are humans, and we are Americans. The hate gets more powerful with more hate. The only thing that is more powerful than hate is love.”

“So, please, we need to be different. If we fight, we have to do it with love,” he added. “We don’t hate them, we love our people, we love our family, and that’s the way to do it, with love.”

Jelly Roll’s Grammy Speech

In contrast, Jelly Roll used his own Grammy acceptance speech to

“First of all, Jesus, I hear you, and I’m listening. Lord, I am listening. Lord,” he said onstage. “Second of all, I want to thank my beautiful wife. I would have never changed my life without you, I would have ended up dead or in jail. I would have killed myself if it wasn’t for you and Jesus, I thank you for that.”

Jelly Roll then talked about how he changed his life in jail thanks to a Bible and a radio.

“And I believe that those two things could change my life. I believe that music had the power to change my life, and God had the power to change my life,” he stated. “And I want to tell y’all right now Jesus is for everybody.”

“Jesus is not owned by one political party, Jesus is not owned by no music label,” Jelly Roll concluded. “Jesus is Jesus and anybody can have a relationship with Him. I love you, Lord.”

Amen to that!

When comparing Jelly Roll to Bad Bunny, there’s really no question who should be performing at the Super Bowl. In the end, it’s clear that the vast majority of Americans would much rather see Jelly Roll and Dolly Parton perform over Bad Bunny any day.

Let’s make this “country” Super Bowl halftime show happen next year!
