Jason Momoa and Andy Samberg: a comedic duo you never knew you needed.

The two actors will be joining forces after Netflix landed the pitch for an action comedy. The pitch was apparently “highly competitive,” with Netflix winning out on two major hitters in the acting scene right now.

When Is the Action Comedy About?

While there has been little released about the film, we do know this.

The film is supposedly set in Momoa’s native Hawaii, though the plot details are still under wraps. This makes sense, since the script is probably still in progress at the time of this publication.

Behind the Screen

As of now, no director has been attached to the film, but they do have scriptwriters. Creating the story will be Saturday Night Live alums Rob Klein and John Solomon. Klein has been nominated for eleven Emmys, while Solomon has been nominated for eight.

As for producers, Momoa and Samberg are on board. Momoa’s On The Roam team and Samberg’s Party Over Here will help create the action comedy.

The Two Stars’ Current Projects

Jason Momoa

Momoa is one of the most prominent actors right now, still riding on the incredible success of A Minecraft Movie. The film pulled in a stunning $948 million at the global box office and is one of the most successful video game adaptations ever.

For upcoming projects, Momoa is appearing in Amazon’s action comedy The Wrecking Crew, along with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, where he will fulfill his dream playing intergalactic alien Lobo.

On August 1st, you can catch Momoa in Chief of War, an Apple historical film, or Animal Friends, where he stars alongside Ryan Reynolds, Aubrey Plaza, and Vince Vaughn.

Momoa will also be getting ready to return to the sandy world of Dune, with filming for the third film starting this summer.

Andy Samberg

Momoa isn’t the only one with recent acting wins. Andy Samberg is an Emmy and Golden Globe winner.

Samberg’s next appearance will be alongside Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch in Jay Roach’s The Roses, releasing on August 29th.

In the recent past, Samberg took the SNL stage again, playing Kamala Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff during a skit for the 50th anniversary season.

You may also know him from Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

As for executive producing, Samberg has worked on I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, PEN15, and Baking It. His most exciting production project is actually MacGruber, which, even though its Rotten Tomatoes scores are low, the film has become a cult classic.
