Yesterday, we reported that the former All In The Family star Rob Reiner was found dead along with his wife Michelle on Sunday. They were allegedly murdered by their own son Nick, who has since been arrested.
Now, the two-time Oscar-winning actress Jane Fonda is revealing that she saw Rob the night before his brutal murder.
Fonda Honors Rob Reiner
Fonda, who turns 88 next week, took to Instagram to share a photo of Rob, 78, and Michelle, 68.
“Rob and Michele Reiner were wonderful, caring, smart, funny, generous people, always coming up with ideas for how to make the world better, kinder,” Fonda wrote. “They had been helping me launch the Committee for the First Amendment.”
“I saw them night before last looking healthy and happy,” she continued. “I am reeling with grief. Stunned.”
On the night before they were murdered, Rob, Michelle, and Nick attended a Christmas party that was hosted by Conan O’Brien. It appears that this is where Fonda saw them. Sources who were at this party later alleged that Rob and Nick, 32, were seen having a “very loud argument” at this event.
“Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they were famous,” an insider told People Magazine.
Another source told OK! Magazine that Rob had brought Nick to this party to “keep an eye on him.”
Nick appeared out of place at the party, as he was wearing a hoodie when it was a formal event. He also displayed “anti-social behavior” and was making guests feel uncomfortable by staring at them, according to the insider.
Reiners Murdered – Nick Arrested
After the alleged altercation, Rob and Michelle left the party. They were found dead at around 3:30pm by their daughter Romy, 28. Police told Daily Mail that they were stabbed to death, with their throats being slit. Their son Nick, 32, was arrested for their murders around six hours later. He is currently being held on a $4 million bond.
“We have our robbery homicide division handling the investigation. They worked throughout the night on this case and were able to take into custody Nick Reiner,” LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell told People Magazine.
Rob and Michelle were parents to three children: Jake, 34, Nick, and Romy. Jake is a news reporter living in Houston, Texas, while Romy lives across the street from her parents. Nick was living with his parents at the time of the murders after openly struggling with addiction and mental health for many years. In the final months of her life, Michelle reportedly told friends that “we’ve tried everything” to help Nick, according to sources that spoke to TMZ.
Michelle Obama has since revealed that she and Barack were set to meet with Rob and his wife the night that their bodies were found.
“We’ve known them for many, many years. And we were supposed to be seeing them that night, last night,” Michelle said of herself and Barack.
