The shock jock radio host Howard Stern just got some bad news as insiders are alleging that his eponymous SiriusXM radio show is about to be canceled after nearly 20 years.
‘Stern’s Contract Is Up…’
“Stern’s contract is up in the fall and while Sirius is planning to make him an offer, they don’t intend for him to take it,” one insider told The Sun of the impending end to Stern’s latest five year contract.
“Sirius and Stern are never going to meet on the money he is going to want,” the source continued. “It’s no longer worth the investment.”
The insider went on to say that Stern, 71, may strike a deal with Sirius that would allow the network to keep his library.
“But as far as him coming back to doing the show, there’s no way they can keep paying his salary,” the source added. “After you saw what happened with Stephen Colbert, it’s like they just can’t afford to keep him going.”

Stern’s ‘Woke’ Politics Backfire
Another insider spoke out to claim that Stern’s far-left politics aren’t helping his situation at all.
“If Sirius isn’t going to give Stern a good offer, I don’t think it would have anything to do with his ratings,” this source alleged. “It’s more likely everything to do with the political climate.”
Indeed, though he was once the ultimate shock jock, Stern has faced backlash in recent years after proudly admitting that he is “woke.” The rapper Kanye West famously branded Stern as an “irrelevant old man” a few years ago, and many agree with this assessment of the radio host.
“He may do a 1-2 year contract if they can meet him where he wants financially,” yet another source told Daily Mail. “He doesn’t want to pull the plug on his employees like this.”
A fourth source claimed that Stern is considering “parting ways” with SiriusXM. This is because he is reportedly frustrated by SiriusXM’s reliance on competing radio star Andy Cohen.
This insider alleged that his staff of “around 95” writers and producers only recently learned of Stern’s indecision about his radio show’s future. The source stated that Stern “will likely sell his catalogue of shows to replay” on uncensored channels Howard 100 and Howard 101.
“He is off in the summer but this year has been saying ‘maybe I should retire,'” the insider alleged.
Stern’s History
Stern rose to fame with The Howard Stern Show in the 1980s. The show spent twenty years on New York City’s WXRK. There, it first became nationally syndicated into 60 markets with 20 million listeners at its peak. In 2006, The Howard Stern Show moved over to SiriusXM, and it has been there for the last 19 years.
Aside from his radio show, Stern is known for his 1997 movie Private Parts, which chronicles his wild rise to fame. Stern starred in the movie, which he used to famously air his gripes with previous employers.
Stern is the author of multiple books, including Private Parts, the autobiography that his movie is based on. He also served as a judge on NBC’s America’s Got Talent from 2012 until 2015.
In his private life, Stern has been married to the actress, model, and animal rights activist Beth Ostrosky Stern, 53, since 2008. He was previously married to Alison Berns from 1978 to 2001. Together, Stern and Berns share three adult daughters.
At the time of this writing, Stern has yet to respond to the rumors that his show is ending. It will certainly be interesting to see what becomes of Stern and his show in the future!
