The legendary Hollywood star Harrison Ford celebrated his 83rd birthday last month. Despite this, he has no plans to retire. In fact, Ford is eager to continue acting for many years to come.
Ford Has No Plans To Retire
While being interviewed by Variety recently, Ford was asked directly if he will ever retire.
“No. That’s one of the things I thought was attractive about the job of an actor, was that they need old people, too, to play old people’s parts,” replied Ford, who has starred in over 60 movies.
This isn’t the first time that Ford has talked about avoiding retirement this year. While walking the red carpet for his Yellowstone prequel show 1923 back in February, Ford was asked what would make him retire.
“When you forget my name,” he quipped in response.
Later on this red carpet, he was asked the same retirement question by another reporter.
“Haven’t thought about it,” Ford replied.
As for what keeps him working these days, Ford responded, “Good writing. I just stumbled into a kind of vein of it, and that’s why I’m so ubiquitous right now.”

Ford Loves Making Movies
It’s clear that Ford still loves working on film sets. In his latest interview, Ford went on to talk about some of his recent projects. One of these came when he co-starred with Ryan Gosling for 2017’s Blade Runner 2049, the long-awaited sequel to Ford’s 1982 sci-fi classic. Ford recalled when he mistakenly landed a jab at Gosling, 44, during filming.
“[We were rehearsing a fight] and we got too close and I hit him,” Ford remembered. “I apologized right away. What more could I do? Can’t take back a punch. Just take it.”
Referring to Gosling, Ford jokingly said, “He’s a very handsome man. He’s still very handsome.”
As for what drew him to acting in the first place in his younger days, Ford revealed that he was drawn to it in college.
“I quickly recognized that I loved telling stories,” he explained. “I liked dressing up and pretending to be somebody else.”
Ford Scores His First Emmy Nomination
Ford recently landed his first Emmy nomination for his work on the show Shrinking. After wrapping filming on season three of Shrinking last month, Ford was seen becoming emotional as he gave a speech to the show’s cast and crew.
“You guys are the best,” a teary-eyed Ford said in an emotional video posted to Instagram. “The very, very best at what you do and how you do it. And how you make people feel is just [expletive] amazing.”
“I love this place, I love working with you guys,” he added. “I hope we can all get back here and do it again.”
When asked about getting his first Emmy nomination, Ford replied, “I don’t think there’s anything competitive about creativity, and I don’t understand the need to compare and contrast one person’s work to another’s. If you like it, you like it; if you don’t like it, look at something else.”
“I’m grateful, but I would have done what I did — and I’ll do what I’m doing — regardless of whether it’s deemed worthy of mention or not,” he continued. “Because it’s what I do. It’s what I love doing. I love telling stories. I love pretending to be somebody else.”
Ford is a rarity in Hollywood in that he prioritizes both hard work and staying humble. If only we had more celebrities out there like him.
God bless you, Harrison Ford!
