The former child star Haley Joel Osment, best known for his Oscar-nominated turn in the 1999 horror movie The Sixth Sense, was arrested last week at a California ski resort.

Osment Arrested

Osment, 37, was arrested on April 8 for alleged public intoxication and possession of an unidentified controlled substance. He was reportedly in a parking lot at the time of his arrest, according to Fox News. Osment was taken into custody in Mammoth Lakes, California.

“He was booked and is no longer in custody,” Sergeant Jason Heilman told People Magazine.

The Mono County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Osment’s arrest, saying that a mugshot was taken of him. It will now be up to the Mono County district attorney to decide whether or not Osment will be prosecuted.

Osment’s Previous Run-Ins With The Law

This isn’t the first time Osment has found himself in trouble with the law. In 2018, police were called on Osment after he had a verbal argument at the McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada on Super Bowl Sunday.

“A passenger on the evening of Sunday, February 4, missed their flight at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport,” a representative for American Airlines told Page Six at the time. “As a courtesy, they were placed on standby for another flight Monday morning from Las Vegas.”

“Due to the passenger’s behavior toward our team members on Monday morning, law enforcement was summoned to the gate,” the representative added. “The passenger was upset we would not confirm him on a flight, after he missed his flight the previous evening.”

Prior to that, Osment was just 18 years-old when he was charged with misdemeanor drunk driving back in 2006. He was arrested after getting in a car accident. Osment pled no contest and was ultimately sentenced to three years of probation.

Osment Leaves The Spotlight

This comes one year after Osment opened up about why he decided to leave the spotlight following his success as a child actor.

“My parents used to say when I first started out in this industry, ‘If it’s ever not fun, you can quit tomorrow,'” Osment told E! News. “And when I got to be college age, I got to go off and study theater and really think hard about whether I wanted to do this as my career in life.”

“The answer has always been yes at all these junctures,” he continued. “It’s still a job that I really enjoy, despite all the uncertainty and the difficulty of being able to plan your life three to six months out.”

Osment left Hollywood in 2006 and moved to New York City to attend college. He later made his return to the industry in 2012. Indeed, his comeback was a role in the movie The Misadventures of the Dunderheads. In the years since then, Osment has worked steadily in movies, TV shows and video games. According to IMDB, Osment has 127 credits to his name, with three more projects currently in the works.

Osment has yet to break his silence publicly about his latest arrest. Please join us in saying a prayer for this former child star!
