Yesterday, we reported that the Hollywood star John Stamos was on the receiving end for wearing a bald cap in “solidarity” with his former Full House co-star Dave Coulier, who is currently battling a “very aggressive” form of cancer.

Coulier has a different view of what his friend did for him, and he’s speaking out to defend Stamos amidst this controversy.

Stamos Hit With Backlash

Stamos 61, took to Instagram on Monday to share photos of himself wearing a bald cap with Coulier, 65.

“Nothing like throwing on a bald cap and flexing some Photoshop skills to show some love and solidarity with my bro @dcoulier,” Stamos wrote in the caption. “You’re handling this with so much strength and positivity—it’s inspiring. I know you’re going to get through this, and I’m proud to stand with you every step of the way. I love you”

Many internet users were outraged by this, as they felt that Stamos was being insensitive or just trying to steal some of the spotlight without actually going through any of the pain of losing your hair.

“Aww. But really @johnstamos? You didn’t shave your head with him?” one social media user commented. “Unfortunately, this isn’t brotherhood. Your hair isn’t that important coming from someone who has good hair. I would never not shave my head in true solidarity.”

Coulier, however, disagrees.

Coulier Defends Stamos

“I’m sorry to see a bunch of negative comments as I’ve just begun my cancer journey,” Coulier wrote on Instagram on Tuesday. “It’s our friendship (me and John) and this is how we are handling a very tough time.”

“I’m a comedian and humor is what drives me,” he continued. “John knows how to cheer me up and I laughed out loud when he arrived wearing a bald cap — being a true loving friend and brother.”

Coulier went on to talk about the support he’s received since announcing that he’s been diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

“I have heard from so many people who have been inspired enough by my words and actions to say that they are going to check in with their doctors and get mammograms, a colonoscopy or a prostate exam,” Coulier added. “I’m still going to laugh in the face of adversity.”

“When I lost my sister, Sharon, my mother, Arlen, and my niece, Shannon to cancer, we tried to stay positive, and we made each other laugh through the worst of it,” Coulier concluded. “I’m choosing to spread the word about early cancer detection to help people. That’s just who I am. I wish nothing but love for all of you.”

Here’s Why Stamos Couldn’t Shave His Head

A source close to Stamos has since spoken out to claim that the actor couldn’t actually shave his head in “solidarity” with Coulier because of his role in season two of the Apple+ series Palm Royale.

“John is currently working on Palm Royale which requires him to have hair,” the insider told Daily Mail. “Otherwise, he would shave his hair in a heartbeat. John acknowledges that he missed the mark on this one. He has lost people to cancer in his life…he can see how people could be upset about this.”

“John wears his heart on his sleeve and Dave and his wife Melissa know that his intentions were made in good spirits,” the source explained. “One of his friends is ill and he wants him to feel good and get better and be able to laugh. Not once did he think people would be upset about the post. They both intended the post to be in good nature and shine a fun light on something that is incredibly hard to deal with.”

Coulier’s Cancer Battle

Coulier revealed his cancer diagnosis to the world last week. His cancer journey began last month when he was battling an upper respiratory infection. When his lymph nodes kept swelling, his doctor had him undergo a series of tests.

“Three days later, my doctors called me back and they said, ‘We wish we had better news for you, but you have non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and it’s called B cell and it’s very aggressive,’” Coulier told People Magazine. “I went from, I got a little bit of a head cold to I have cancer, and it was pretty overwhelming.”

“This has been a really fast roller coaster ride of a journey,” he added.

Though this form of cancer is “very aggressive,” Coulier has since been told that his cancer is in the “90 percent” curable range.

It seems that fans should cut Stamos some slack, as his heart was clearly in the right place here. Anyone who took issue with his bald cap should put that energy into praying for Coulier’s full recovery!
